General Description of the Organization:

Job Purpose:

The Safeguarding Senior Officer is instrumental in upholding the organization’s dedication to protecting vulnerable groups and fostering a secure, inclusive atmosphere. Central to this role is the facilitation of connections, networking, and coordination among staff, stakeholders, NGOs, UN agencies, and donors to enhance safeguarding efforts. This individual leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of safeguarding policies and frameworks, ensuring their alignment with global best practices and local regulations. Additionally, the officer offers crucial support and advice on safeguarding issues, emphasizing collaborative strategies and the strengthening of safeguarding mechanisms through effective communication and partnership.

Duties, objectives, and competencies:

  • Facilitate networking and coordination within a working group to strengthen safeguarding initiatives, encouraging the exchange of knowledge, strategies, and best practices across organizations and sectors.
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for safeguarding efforts among NGOs, UN agencies, donors, and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitate coordination meetings, arrange hosting, and write minutes of meetings (MoMs) to ensure clear communication and documentation of SG efforts.
  • Foster collaboration and strengthen safeguarding mechanisms by liaising closely with NGOs and other field stakeholders, promoting a unified approach to SG.
  • Regularly report on SG efforts, challenges, and progress to the donor’s technical focal point and relevant stakeholders, providing transparent and accountable updates.
  • Identify training needs and opportunities to enhance safeguarding capacities among project staff and partner organizations.
  • Organize and facilitate training sessions and workshops on safeguarding best practices, standards, and strategies for all involved parties.
  • Recommend adjustments to the SG strategy and activities based on monitoring outcomes and stakeholder feedback to continuously improve safeguarding efforts.
  • Formulate and implement detailed safeguarding guidelines and processes, aligning with global norms and leading practices.
  • Conduct educational and informational workshops on safeguarding principles and protocols for employees and involved parties.
  • Perform risk evaluations and oversee safeguarding incidents to guarantee prompt reporting and suitable subsequent measures.
  • Work in partnership with relevant parties to foster a safeguarding culture and secure compliance with established guidelines and practices.
  • Offer advice and support to employees and recipients regarding safeguarding concerns and recommendations.
  • Direct inquiries into safeguarding incidents with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and adherence to legal and ethical standards.
  • Keep thorough records and documentation related to safeguarding occurrences, inquiries, and actions taken.
  • Engage in advocacy events to raise awareness around safeguarding matters and champion the wellbeing and rights of at-risk groups.
  • Remain abreast of latest trends, advancements, and regulations in the safeguarding field, incorporating contemporary insights and practices into the organization’s guidelines and protocols.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to Social Work, International Development, or Human Rights.
  • At least 4 years of relevant safeguarding experience, ideally within the context of international development or humanitarian work.
  • Outstanding coordination, networking, and active communication skills.
  • Exceptional command of the Arabic and English language, encompassing both written and oral communication.
  • Proficiency in the Turkish language is an advantage.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities, capable of effectively interacting with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability in advocacy, with a deep dedication to enhancing the rights and safety of those at risk.
  • Valuable experience in creating and implementing training initiatives and leading investigations.
  • Familiarity with global safeguarding protocols and legislation is beneficial.
  • A strong commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly encouraging applications from individuals with disabilities and women.
  • The capacity to operate both autonomously and within a team framework, adopting a proactive and results-driven attitude.
  • Adaptability in the face of evolving priorities and the resilience to perform under stress in demanding settings.
