Job Description

  • USAID-funded Opportunities to Learn (OTL) project aims to address the immediate education need of out-of-school children (OOSC) and youth in 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs), in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states, through safer new and existing non-formal-education, while laying the groundwork for sustainable improvement of education systems at the community and government levels.
  • OTL aims to ensure out-of-school children and youth in Northeastern Nigeria are safely able to gain foundational skills, including literacy, numeracy, and social and emotional skills, to progress to higher levels of education, training, and/or engagement in the workforce.

Background / Rationale

  • The IRC/OTL Innovation Programs, EduTank, under the OTL project will work closely with the Innovation ecosystem in Nigeria to ensure seamless integration of innovative methods and systems towards improving learning and teaching experiences in our non-formal learning centers.
  • In this light, EduTank in partnership with the innovation ecosystem within and outside of the IRC, will crowdsource Edtech solutions, incubate and groom these solutions in line with the humanitarian context, and provide funding to implement the ABEP content in these solutions to reach areas that OTL intervene in. These solutions will digitalize and refine the ABEP content to improve the classroom experience, meet learners at the right levels, and improve the teaching capability of educators, making learning fun.
  • These EdTech solutions will complement the Teacher’s Development Team, and align with global and local approved teaching approaches and methodologies.

Crowd Sourcing EdTech Solution. June 10 – 28, 2024 Phase 1: 

  • The Innovation services will work with the HR team to advertise in public spaces and internal and external networks to crowdsource EdTech Ideas.
  • Existing EdTech partners with the IRC/OTL are encouraged to apply, as special considerations will be given to them, during this process.

Edtech solution will be screened based on the following criteria:

  • Startups should be Nigeria-based ‘Innovation-driven startups’ in the Edtech ecosystem of Nigeria, especially within the humanitarian context.
  • Quality of team composition.
  • startups should either be Female-led, 50% female-owned, or 50% women in top management/leadership positions.
  • Startups with a clear value proposition, who have ideally developed a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), who have demonstrated that they have started to solve the problem with early clients, and are ready to scale up immediately, with customer acceptance.
  • Edtech Startup solutions are sustainable and able to adapt within the humanitarian context.
  • Selected Startups should be willing and ready to work in any of the BAY states in Nigeria.
  • Registration with relevant government agencies in Nigeria.

Qualifications
Objectives:

  • Using innovative technologies to improve classroom experiences.
  • Provide a data-driven environment to determine the best innovative approach towards improving classroom experiences.

Outcomes/Deliverables:

  • Using Innovation to Improve learning outcomes for learners.
  • Using innovation to build the teaching capacity of the learning facilitators.
  • Improve education value in the communities and NFLCs

Methodology:

  • Edutainment using technology for education.
