Job Title: Consultant – Obstetrics and Gynracology

Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full Time
Reports To: MD / CEO, Clinical Director, Admin Director

Purpose of Position

  • To provide high standard of clinical care and expertise in assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment of patients in Obstetrics and Gynae.
  • To be actively Involved in continuous quality improvement activities of department and hospital to achieve the goals of Deda Hospital

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Perform obstetric and gynecologic history and physical examinations along with effective interpretation and documentation of findings to ensure accuracy of the medical record.
  • Apply clinical findings to develop an appropriate diagnosis and propose a prioritized management plan for common gynecologic problems.
  • Apply principles of routine prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care to normal pregnancies and to common pregnancy-related problems.
  • Through observation and direct involvement, demonstrate knowledge of common indications, standard procedures, and possible complications in gynecological practice.
  • Apply recommended prevention and health maintenance strategies for women throughout their lifespan and be able to counsel women regarding risk factors.
  • Perform basic skills and procedures relevant to the practice of obstetrics and gynecology in a variety of clinical settings and in collaboration with the health care team.
  • Carrying out surgical interventions in Obstetric and Gynae cases
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the scientific principles, use, and interpretation of common diagnostic studies applicable to the evaluation of women’s health.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of established and evolving medical evidence and its application to the diagnosis and treatment of obstetric and gynecologic conditions and diseases.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal communication skills to establish rapport with patients, families, and an interprofessional team to deliver optimal patient care and to ensure continuity of care throughout transitions.
  • Through observation and direct involvement, learn to communicate effectively with patients and their families to empower shared decision-making, while incorporating an understanding of cultural, religious, and social issues.
  • Make use of self-evaluation and feedback from others to manage uncertainty, adapt to change, and develop habits of continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate accountability to all patients and a commitment to carrying out professional responsibilities with integrity and compassion.
  • Coaching and Developing Others – Identifying the developmental needs of others and coaching, mentoring, or otherwise helping others to improve their knowledge or skills.
  • Developing and Building Teams – Encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
  • Training and Teaching Others – Identifying the educational needs of others, developing formal educational or training programs or classes, and teaching or instructing others.
  • Keep abreast of advancements in Obstetrics and Gynae and best practices by attending seminars and conferences
  • Will ensure the implementation of all the approved policies and procedures, rules, regulations, protocols and guidellnes, clinical pathways that guide and support the provision of clinical services.
  • Will direct and coordinate. activities of nurses, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff in his/her patient care.
  • Will contribute to the development of policies and procedures as part of the continuous quality improvement of his/ her department.
  • Will serve on Departmental / Hospital Committees as requested

Direct Report:

  • Consultants, Medical Doctors, head of Nurses, Nurses, Head Clinical Lab, Head Pharmacy, QA & QC, HR

Qualification
Educational Qualification:

  • Postgraduate or equivalent qualification, based on residency training program, preferably with a fellowship accepted by Nigeria council for Healthcare Specialties.

Required Skills, Experience & Competencies:

  • Gin with completion of appropriate internship and residency programs.
  • At least five (5) years of practice in his / her specialty after obtaining the higher degree in a Tertiary Care Hospital.
  • Subspecialty degree or structured subspecialty training preferred.
  • Exceraduate of a medical school recognized by the medical council of the country of origllent clinical/ technical skills in his/ her specialty.
  • Knowledge of International / National Healthcare Standards.
  • Computer Literate/ better knowledge of MS Microsoft Word.
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Arabic
