Job Title: Advocacy, Communications and Policy Manager

Scope of Work

  • The Wellbeing Foundation Africa is seeking a highly motivated Advocacy, Communications, and Policy Manager to lead the creation of clear, compelling media, press, and creative content output which aligns with the Foundation’s programmatic output, advocacy initiatives and policy work.
  • You will be creating and implementing the Foundation’s advocacy, communication, and policy strategy whilst translating our work into genuine and actionable narratives.

  • He/She will report to WBFA Executive Director/Country Director and liaise with the Global Office of the Founder-President as required.

  • The successful candidate will report to the WBFA Executive Director/Country Director and collaborate with the Global Office of the Founder-President as necessary.

Key Responsibilities
Advocacy:

  • Understand WBFA’s programmes, audiences and stakeholders to identify opportunities for driving impactful change.
  • Develop, lead, and implement high-standard policy, advocacy, and research strategies.
  • Build strategic coalitions with local and national policymakers and government agencies, focusing on Maternal Health, WASH, Child Nutrition, Adolescent Education and Women’s Empowerment.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and collaborate with partners to enhance and develop advocacy objectives.
  • Lead consultations with public and private sector partners to contribute to national and international advocacy.
  • Build strong relationships with our state offices and other colleagues across WBFA to contribute to the success of our national and international advocacy.
  • Maintain and develop knowledge in our core advocacy and programmatic areas, advising colleagues across WBFA.

Communications:

  • Develop a comprehensive communications strategy with practical approaches to convey high-impact, human-led, content.
  • Craft clear, compelling, and consistent messaging for the identified audience.
  • Write and edit various content formats, including briefings, blogs, press releases, reports, speeches and presentations.
  • Support team members in developing communication skills and articulating the WBFA’s work.
  • Identify new audiences, proactively pitch stories to media outlets, and manage the website, newsletters, and social media channels.
  • Lead event conception, planning, and execution, including conferences, stakeholder events, and workshops.
  • Keep partners, funders, and trustees informed and address feedback. Monitor and evaluate communications activities for continuous improvement.

Policy:

  • Lead the development and implementation of policies aligned with WBFA’s goals and objectives.
  • Conduct policy research, and analysis, and contribute to the formulation of evidence-based recommendations.
  • Engage with policymakers and relevant government agencies to advocate for policy changes in MNCH, WASH, Nutrition, Gender Equality, and initiatives relevant to our programming and advocacy.
  • Monitor and stay informed about policy developments, trends, and opportunities in the healthcare sector.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective policy implementation.

Qualification, Skills and Experience

  • BA / B.Sc / HND in a related field; a Master’s Degree or Advanced Certificate in Communications is an advantage.
  • Track record in delivering advocacy and communications work, preferably in policy, or NGO/civil society.
  • Excellent writing skills across a range of formats and for a range of audiences with the ability to translate complex ideas into compelling storytelling.
  • Strong digital media and design understanding.
  • Effective face-to-face communication with diverse backgrounds, including high-profile individuals and organizations.
  • A strategic mindset and the ability to offer and receive constructive feedback.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively with drive and at pace. Ability to work independently and collaboratively, handling uncertainty and change with problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a commitment to quality and attention to detail.
