Job Purpose
- Our client, one of Africa’s leading independent E&P players with a diverse portfolio of eight (8) oil and gas assets in prolific basins across Africa is seeking a Well Engineer to play a critical role in driving the success of drilling operations.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for adequate planning, efficient execution, and optimization of well projects while ensuring compliance with HSE standards and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Well Planning & Engineering:
- Design and prepare well engineering plans, including casing design, material selection, and well trajectory optimization.
- Define rig selection criteria and requirements.
- Collaborate with subsurface teams to integrate well designs with reservoir objectives.
- Produce well designs, cost/risk analyses, and AFE preparation
Drilling Operations & Execution:
- Manage the Well Delivery Process (WDP) and Project Maturation Process (PMP).
- Ensure compliance with HSE policies, regulations, and environmental standards.
- Provide technical input on well construction, completions, interventions, and abandonment.
- Work closely with drilling teams to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.
Technical & Compliance Management:
- Oversee drilling management systems including benchmarking, reporting, and lessons learned.
- Support commercial and procurement teams with technical insights.
- Ensure all operations align with local, national, and international standards
- Liaise with government bodies, partners, and community representatives as required.
Job Qualifications & Experience
- Must have a BSc degree in Petroleum, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
- Must have a minimum of 7-10 years of well engineering experience.
- Experience in onshore and offshore drilling operations.
- Competency in at least two of the following: Conventional rotary drilling, Horizontal/multilateral wells, Pad drilling, Coiled tubing drilling, Underbalanced or managed pressure drilling
- Experience in managing an IOC or NOC drilling team in the Niger Delta.
- Strong background in stuck pipe avoidance, well control, and risk management.
- Well Control Certification is an added advantage.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
