Vehicle Fleet Manager II at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)


The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Vehicle Fleet Manager II

The Purpose

  • Under the supervision of the Logistics Country Manager, Vehicle Fleet Manager 2 oversees management of the fleet of ICRC vehicles in their country of assignment so that operational needs are met, working in strict compliance with the standards set at headquarters.
  • S/he carries out effective and efficient resource planning and scheduling for ICRC and non-ICRC-owned vehicles within the operational area.

Your Role

  • Determine needs in terms of the fleet and maximizes its efficiency and effectiveness through planned resource allocation in accordance with guidelines from headquarters.
  • Monitors, organizes and maximizes the efficiency of the vehicle pool to support the delegation’s operations.
  • Ensure generator setups within Nigeria are properly installed and tailored to meet power load requirements.
  • Ensure that ICRC Fleet procedures (SOP’s) and systems are in place, operational and implemented in an agile, well-organized way.
  • Provide technical input in the decision-making process regarding private transport services under contract or ad-doc daily contract, especially freight transport and car/bus rental.
  • Ensure that administrative paperwork related to vehicles and drivers is handled in a professional manner and is in line with guidelines from headquarters (includes vehicle and driver data files, registration and documentation related to import/export/transfer of vehicles, and convoy documentation).
  • In collaboration with the Logistician/Premise, ensures that all sites are secure in terms of fire danger, collateral damage from weapons and illegal access.
  • Ensure that all vehicles are in compliance with ICRC and national rules in terms of third-party, casco insurance and road worthy at any time.
  • Manage and carries out controls on fuel supplies, for which s/he has final accountability; carries out contingency planning.
  • Establish the spare parts and workshop tools inventory bi-annually and carries out controls in accordance with ICRC guidelines.
  • Oversee fuel purchase reconciliation (Fleetwave vs Finance) to ensure accuracy in fuel inventory and financial reporting, identifying discrepancies and implementing corrective measures as needed.
  • Supervise the administration of vehicle tracking platform and hardware installation to ensure accurate data collection, enhance fleet efficiency and support real-time decision-making
  • Prepare the fleet budget by coordinating with various departments to gather relevant information & needs and accurately estimate costs for vehicles, generators, fuel, spare parts, tools and vehicle rentals.
  • Monitor and follows up on budget forecasts for fleet-related expenses, ensuring adherence to financial targets and optimizing resource allocation.

Your Profile
Education and Experience:

  • University Degree in Automotive technology, Transport, or related field.
  • 6 years’ experience working in transport or an automotive workshop.
  • Very good knowledge of the political situation and social and cultural norms of the area of assignment.
  • Two years’ management experience.
  • Previous exposure to other cultural and religious contexts an asset.
  • Accredited management training an asset.
  • Excellent command (written and spoken) of English.
  • Very good skills with computers and workshop finances.
  • Driving license B manual gearbox required and C an asset.
  • You must have a valid working permit to work in Nigeria
