Job Title: Treasury Controller
Location: Lagos
Job Responsibilities
Bank Charges and Loan Management:
- Prepares, controls, verifies, and reconciles bank loan interests, charges, and incomes and liaises with banks where necessary
- Maintains periodic financial information as may be required by management, lenders, and regulatory authorities.
- Prepares monthly journals/accruals for bank charges, interests, fees, and incomes and ensures accurate booking in SAP.
- Prepares and updates database of all company loans and monitors compliance with loan covenants.
Bank Bonds and Guarantee Management:
- Maintains a database of bonds and guarantees issued and received by the Company.
- Performs monthly review of the status of existing Bonds and Guarantees.
- Provide information and reports as required by management.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Implements Company’s cash management rules, procedures and internal control requirements in line with Group Rules.
- Participates in financial and counter-party risk analysis, including banks’ soundness (credit rating).
- Prepares monthly SOX control documentation and compliance issues and manage the assessment process for Treasury.
- Reviews / updates existing procedures and documents new processes as the job evolves.
Reporting and Administration:
- Prepares weekly Treasury report and contribute to the production of monthly Treasury Tableau de Bord
- Coordinates external reporting obligations of Treasury Department to Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
- Documents monthly bank statements and contributes to monthly bank reconciliation processes
- Monitors and updates key economic indicators, including foreign exchange, inflation, and interest rates
- Monitoring/Updating of interest rates and foreign exchange rates on daily basis for business decision.
- Updates monthly treasury workbook with actual payments and receipts.
Banking Relationship:
- Participate in building relationship with key financial institutions and agencies in Nigeria
- Prepares, despatches, and maintains database of all correspondence with banks.
Context and Environment:
- Dynamic legal and regulatory (e.g., CBN ad-hoc directives) environment, constraining creativity, and increasing risk of sanctions.
- Increasing sophistication in Cybercrimes, higher potential for financial crimes, and exposure to third-party threats and weaknesses
- Reliance on information technology & communication and its inherent challenges, may be beyond the treasurer’s control
- Omissions, commissions, errors, and fraud could potentially lead to high financial loss to the company.
Accountabilities
- Prepares accurate schedule of bank charges, interest income, and other financial cost/income in line with approved terms
- Maintains adequate database for loans, bonds, guarantees, and bank statements to guarantee integrity of financial data
- Maintains schedules of foreign exchange rates, inflation, and interest rates to aid management decision-making
- Prepares and monitors a check-list of loan covenants to ensure the Company complies with its financial obligations
- Prepares monthly treasury workbook for forecasting accurate cash position during PDCs and Budget exercises
- Maintains database of letters and memos to ensure the integrity of communications with stakeholders
- Compliance with established company rules and government policies, monitoring controls to prevent errors and fraud.
Qualifications / Experience Required
- Minimum Education qualification of an HND / BSc in Finance / Accounting / Banking / Economics
- 3 – 5 years relevant post-graduation experience in Finance/Accounting/Banking/Treasury function.
- Good organisational, analytical, communication, and Inter-personal skills) and good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
