Job Profile : National Trainee / Nutrition Unit

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT :

Internship proposals take place in the national offices (CO) of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). Holders typically provide administrative support and research to one or more teams and/or support an industry, and report to a specific technical unit. The work is carried out under close supervision and interns are required to produce organized and accurate work and are not allowed to make statements on behalf of the’organization.

SUBJECT OF THE COURSE :

The/the trainee will actively participate the documentation of the pilot project for the production of enriched rice and its implementation.

DATE / LOCATION :

Start ……….2024, at the country office of WFP Senegal (Dakar)

RESPONSIBILITIES KEYS (not exhaustive) :

1. To make a bibliographical review of the scientific literature on food fortification in general and rice fortification in particular

2. Support the development of’a process for fortifying enriched rice

3. Support the realization of’assessment and’studies

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE :

Education

Be currently enrolled (e) in a recognized university/School of formation and have completed at least three years of studies of the cycle of license sanctioned by a diploma or a certificate/attestation.

To be currently enrolled (e) in a recognized university in Master cycle in nutrition, public health, agri-food.

Knowledge and skills :

  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Showing intellectual curiosity
  • Knowledge of standard office software packages, for example Microsoft word Excel, PPT, etc.
  • Demonstrate tact and courtesy in accordance with the’ethics of the’institution
  • Ability to work on time and follow clear instructions.
  • Be of Senegalese nationality
  • Applicants who have any of the following relationships with WFP staff members are not eligible: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.

Languages :

Perfect mastery of french

Intermediate level in english

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE INTERNSHIP : A report of internship

• good general understanding of the overall operations and activities of WFP in the country of assignment

• Familiarity with humanitarian principles and processes

TRAINING COMPONENTS/LEARNING ELEMENTS

Throughout their mission, WFP interns have access to a state-of-the-art learning platform, WeLearn. Depending on the opportunities and availability of funds, interns may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate. Trainees will ensure that they remain compliant with the requirements of the mandatory courses in accordance with organizational guidelines :

  • Mandatory courses of the WFP.
  • Skills development Rule 70|20|10.
  • Undertake a minimum of 3 technical courses in the respective field of work.

Other position requirements

  • Trainees receive monthly WFP allowance
  • Internships must be carried out in a face-to-face manner
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, accommodation arrangements and related costs.
  • Once you have been selected for an internship with the WFP, please be prepared to provide your recent academic record, that is, proof of enrollment or diploma, as well as the course transcripts. WFP will recognise the diplomas of female candidates from recognised institutions who have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Education Organization, science and culture (UNESCO) or ministries of education.
  • The duration of the internship is 6 months, full-time.
  • The/The trainee will have to read and write both in french and in english.
  • This is an internship and does not constitute a long-term work commitment
  • Most WFP positions require min. 3 years of experience, the internship is therefore a step to get to know WFP for a future return.

Note: The trainee will have a work station within the WFP office in Senegal
