Each network partner recruits and develops promising future leaders to teach in their nations’ under-resourced schools and communities and, with this foundation, to work with others, inside and outside of education, to ensure all children are able to fulfill their potential. Job Title: Senior Director, Government and Multilateral Engagement – Global South
Location: Nigeria
About the Role
- This role will provide strategic guidance, direct support, and capacity building to ensure partners, especially those in developing countries, can effectively engage with public sector actors to secure the policy conditions, legal frameworks, and public funding needed for teacher placement, long term financial sustainability, scaling up and systemic impact.
- The ideal candidate brings a strong background in public sector engagement, policy, and international development, with experience advising or working alongside grassroots and locally-led organizations in navigating public sector ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise and support network partners and prospective partners, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia Pacific and Latin America, in engaging with government ministries, local authorities, multilateral and bilateral actors to:
- Secure government funding and access to bilateral and multilateral resources
- Establish and influence enabling legal and regulatory frameworks
- Align with national and subnational education priorities for broader system influence
- Provide guidance and coaching to partners on stakeholder mapping, government relations strategy, multilateral and bilateral funding plans
- Guide partners in navigating public sector funding, calls for proposals and technical assistance mechanisms
- Support the cultivation of relationships with key bilateral and multilaterals to open funding and partnership opportunities for country-level partners
- Design and lead learning experiences, peer communities, and knowledge-sharing initiatives for partner organizations on government and multilateral engagement
- Develop tools, frameworks, and case studies that highlight effective practices and support partners in adopting them
Qualifications
- At least 12 years of experience in government relations, international development, public administration, or a related field.
- Proven success working with or within public institutions, multilateral organizations, or bilateral donors
- Required experience supporting or partnering with grassroots and locally led organizations in developing public sector engagement strategies in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia Pacific or Latin America
- Exceptional relationship-building, facilitation and coaching skills across cultures
- Strong understanding of policy-making, development financing, and government systems, especially in the education sector and in developing countries
- Strategic thinker with the ability to navigate complex political and operational environments
- Comfort working in a global, networked, and fast-paced environment
- English fluency required; additional language(s) strongly preferred
