Background

Concern for Women and Children Development Foundation (COWACDI) is a woman- led organization born out of passion for the wellbeing of Women and Children in Nigeria. COWACDI since its establishment in 2005 has been implementing humanitarian and developmental interventions in Protection, Peace Building, Housing Land & Property (HLP), Non-food Items (NFI), Livelihood. These interventions have directly targeted over 6000 vulnerable children, women, girls and boys as well as people with disabilities. Determined to expand her interventions to reach more vulnerable groups in the conflict area, COWACDI is implementing Livelihood and other projects in collaboration with CAID and other partners. The organization is a dynamic and impactful NGO committed to providing humanitarian aid and support to vulnerable communities around the world. With a focus on empowering individuals and fostering sustainable development, we strive to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of those in need. COWACDI has zero tolerance to fraud and other related practices. It has a special interest in mitigating the suffering of the vulnerable persons (mostly Women & Children) in times of crisis. Currently the organization has focused its attention on the North East of Nigeria with special emphasis in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states (the BAY states) due to the decade old crises. COWACDI intervenes through community-based approach in addressing Gender-Based Violence prevention and response programmes, child protection, peace-building programmes and empowerment of youth and women. Qualification: 

  • Security officer training/certification is a requirement. UN security officer training/certification is an asset.
  • Fire Safety, First Aid Training obtained.
  • Three to five years of experience in security field with international organizations.
  • Knowledge of Windows and MS Office applications;
  • Previous experience with: Technical protection equipment, Radio and other Telecommunication Equipment.
  • Fluent in local languages; good knowledge of English language.

About the Role 

This position is located in the COWACDI Security Unit under the overall supervision of the Head of Security and under the direct supervision of the Security Guard-Team Leader.

Security Guard duties are performed in eight (8) or twelve (12) hour rotating shifts which are covering posts on 24/7 basis. The incumbent will be dressed in prescribed uniform and carry approved “Use of Force” equipment.

Security Guard will be performing variety of tasks while ensuring Safe and Secure environment for COWACDI personnel and assets.

Detail Security Guard duties are defined in standing Standard Operating Procedures, Post Orders, and other relevant security plans.

Under the overall guidance of the COWACDI Logistics Coordinator and the direct supervision of the Security Assistant, the Security Guard is expected to:

  • Patrol and maintain security of the office premises and grounds during the assigned shift and report any irregularities.
  • Respond to emergencies effecting the safety of the premises and notify the immediate supervisor or other designated staff members.
  • Control the admission and movement of authorized personnel, suppliers, commercial trucks to COWACDI grounds and premises.
  • Ensure that routine patrols are conducted within the grounds and ensure that security guards/watchmen keep an up-to-date record of their patrol duties.
  • Patrol assigned areas, maintain continual surveillance against fire, water leakage and any other action which could damage premises or injure personnel.
  • Investigate and report all incidents on shared grounds that involve a breach of security procedures, injuries and/or theft and report back to supervisor.
  • In case of incident/emergency instruct COWACDI staff members and visitors of performance of security services, including fire control and physical security for the premises, first aid procedures, use of equipment and operation of the automated alarm and video surveillance systems, if installed.
  • Maintain updated directives and security personnel lists.
  • Respond to enquiries and provide appropriate information or suggest alternative sources of information.
  • Issue building passes when appropriate.
  • Liaise as necessary with the local administration, police authorities, fire services and other emergency services.
  • Report for duty as and when necessary (on call).
  • Duties to be performed on a 24/7 basis as scheduled in the Security Guard Duty Roster not to exceed 40 hours per week.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Other Duties

  • Maintain peace and order within COWACDI premises.
  • Maintain all logbooks in respect to established routine.
  • Provide verbal and written reports.
  • Provide security support for organized events as requested by Head of Security.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Head of Security, Team Leader and COWACDI Department of Safety and Security (if needed).

  • Be on time for your shift
  • No sleeping on duty
  • Remain vigilant at all times and ready to react
  • Behave in accordance with COWACDI low profile security rules
  • No personal visitors while you are working on shift
  • All visitors to be respected and treated fairly
  • Be clean and presentable for your duties
  • No guard is allowed to use abusive language
  • Do not leave your post without permission, even if the next shift has not arrived
  • Any guard engaging in a criminal fraudulent act including theft will be automatically dismissed
