Job Title: Pan-African Surgical Healthcare Forum (PASHeF) Secretariat Coordinator
Reports to:Chair, Center for Equity in Global Surgery
Group/Department: Center for Equity in Global Surgery, University of Global Health Equity
Location:Primarily at UGHE Kigali offices, with occasional travel to Butaro, regional partners, African Union Secretariat, and international conferences
Position Overview
The Secretariat Coordinator will play a pivotal role in facilitating the activities of PASHeF by serving as the central point of coordination for stakeholders, managing the Secretariat’s operations, and ensuring the timely execution of PASHeF and other UGHE African partnership programs and objectives. This individual will keep all members engaged and aligned, fostering accountability and advancing the Forum’s mission to strengthen surgical healthcare systems across Africa.The ideal candidate is a highly organized, proactive, and dynamic individual with a passion for global health, equity, and collaborative advocacy.
Responsibilities
Program Coordination and Communication
- Serve as the primary liaison for PASHeF Secretariat, ensuring clear communication among members, partners, and stakeholders.
- Monitor and track PASHeF’s deliverables, ensuring deadlines are met and progress is regularly reported.
- Organize and facilitate meetings, workshops, and conferences, including preparing agendas, minutes, and follow-up action plans for the Secretariat
- Develop and disseminate updates, newsletters, and reports to keep members informed and engaged.
Administrative and Operational Support
- Maintain comprehensive records of PASHeFand other activities, agreements, and resolutions. Manage the Secretariats’ budget, resources, and operational needs.
- Ensure compliance with UGHE and PASHeF policies, including safeguarding and ethical standards
- Coordinate logistics for events, including travel arrangements, venues, and accommodation.
- Support the Center’s administrative and operational activities.
Advocacy and Partnership Development
- Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, including governments, NGOs, academic institutions, and private sector partners in line with PASHeF.
- Collaborate with members to develop advocacy strategies that align with the Forum’s goals.
- Represent PASHeF and the relevant stakeholders at conferences, meetings, and public engagements to promote its mission.
Research and Resource Mobilization
- Support the development of policy briefs, proposals, and research initiatives to strengthen surgical health systems and African health education systems.
- Assist in preparing grant applications and securing funding to sustain PASHeF and other African partnership activities.
Other Responsibilities
- Provide regular updates to UGHE leadership on the progress and impact of PASHeF initiatives.
- Contribute to UGHE community development and CEGS initiatives.
- Undertake other duties as assigned by the CEGS Chair.
Qualifications and Skills
Mandatory
- Master’s degree in Global Health, Public Health, Health Management, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in program coordination, global health, or healthcare advocacy.
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills with keen attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience working in multicultural environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace tools.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Preferred
- Working Speaking and Writing Knowledge of French, Spanish, Kiswahili, Arabic, and Portuguese (African Languages) is an advantage
- Experience working in an academic, healthcare, or non-governmental organization setting.
- Familiarity with surgical health systems and global health equity issues.
- Expertise in resource mobilization and grant writing.
- Knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative research methodologies

This is a unique confluence of African academic leaders who meet to advance surgical care across the continent and to share lessons with a secretariat at the UGHE CEGS.
