The Bisi Alimi Foundation (BAF) is a charity established in 2015 and registered in England and Wales following the enactment of the Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act 2013 (SSMPA) in Nigeria. We aim to work towards a Nigeria where everyone is equal irrespective of Sexual Orientation or Gender Identity. We focus on four thematic areas, so as to contribute towards influencing opinions and views on LGBT issues in Nigeria.

Key Responsibilities:
Research and Analysis:
- Conduct extensive desktop mapping of LGBTQI/Religious programs in Nigeria, Africa and globally.
- Write a detailed report on LGBTQI/religious engagements in Nigeria, Africa, and globally.
Community Engagement and Education:
- Identify and collaborate with religious leaders, scholars, and LGBTQI advocacy groups to develop educational materials, workshops, and seminars to foster dialogue and understanding.
- Organise community forums, discussions, and training sessions to sensitise religious leaders and community members about LGBTQI issues within a religious framework.
Advocacy and Policy Development:
- Advocate for LGBTQI-inclusive policies and practices within religious institutions by engaging with religious leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders.
- Work towards creating safe spaces within religious settings for LGBTQI individuals and allies, advocating for policies that promote acceptance and support.
Strategic Partnerships:
- Establish partnerships with local and international LGBTQI organisations, religious bodies, and human rights groups to leverage resources and support for inclusion initiatives.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop strategies that promote a balance between religious beliefs and LGBTQI rights, fostering mutual respect and understanding.
Support and counselling:
- Provide support and referral services to LGBTQI individuals facing discrimination, stigma, or exclusion within religious communities.
- Facilitate or refer individuals to support networks, counselling services, or safe spaces for emotional and mental health support.
Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Social Sciences, Religious Studies, Human Rights, or a related field.
- Deep understanding of Nigerian cultural, religious, and societal dynamics, particularly within the context of LGBTQI issues.
- Experience in research, advocacy, or community engagement related to LGBTQI rights, preferably within a religious or cultural setting.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and networking skills to engage diverse stakeholders effectively.
- Empathy, sensitivity, and a non-judgmental approach towards diverse religious and LGBTQI communities.
- Ability to navigate sensitive topics while promoting inclusivity and respect for diverse beliefs.
