In collaboration with the National TB and Leprosy Control Program (NTBLCP) as the Principal Recipient (PR), KNCV will implement the Global Fund Grant Cycle 7 (GC7) Portable Digital Xray (PDX) grant which will deploy 390 portable digital Xray’s across all states of the Federation and the FCT to improve TB case finding. The implementation of Portable Digital xray for Active TB case finding in Nigeria – (IMPACT Project) will scale up the utilization of portable digital X-rays (PDX) with Artificial Intelligence (AI) for TB case finding in hotspot communities and high burden facilities across all 36 states in Nigeria and the FCT. The objectives of this project will be:
- To drive targeted TB screening within identified TB Hot spots, most at risk population and high burden facilities.
- To improve the diagnostic efficiency of the molecular diagnostic tools eg TB LAMP, GeneXpert and Truenat.
- To ensure early TB case finding within the community and thus limiting TB transmission and infection.
- To drive the TB program, scale up of TPT by identifying non presumptive TB among contacts of diagnosed TB cases in the community for TPT.
Purpose of the job
The radiation safety officer will support the roll-out of the PDX ACF project and ensure that all radiation regulatory and safety requirements are met. The safety officer will serve as a point of contact between the organization and nuclear regulatory agency. Will be responsible for ensuring that dosimeters are utilized on all PDX platforms and ensure timely readings of the dosimeters based on the nuclear regulations. The officer will provide field support to the PDX teams across all states in the country to ensure appropriate maintenance of all PDX units.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Will serve as a point of contact between KNCV Nigeria, National TB Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer Control program and the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Agency and ensure that all regulatory requirements for the utilization of each PDX platform is met and Plan annual NNRA inspection and licensing of all PDX.
- Ensure registration of all PDX platform with the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Agency, as well as annual renewals of this registration.
- Support the packaging, transportation, set up and utilization of all PDX platforms across the country.
- Will enforce proper utilization of the PDX platforms and will ensure that daily/weekly/monthly and yearly maintenance of the platforms are carried out where indicated.
- Will support license renewals for the PDX platforms.
- Keep maintenance log and fault tracking of all the PDX equipment.
- Liaise with the PDX manufacturer to repair/replace faulty platforms where indicated.
- Will be responsible for ensuring that dosimeters are utilized on all PDX platforms and ensure timely readings of the dosimeters based on the nuclear regulations.
- In collaboration with the Project coordinator, support the design, implementation, and monitoring of the PDC ACF Project.
- Submit monthly/quarterly state progress reports to the PDX ACF Coordinator.
Who are we looking for?
Education:
- BSc Radiography/MSc/PHD
- A master’s degree in public health will be an additional advantage.
Knowledge/experience:
- Experience in the deployment of Digital Xray’s in resource limited settings.
- Knowledge of and familiarity with key TB/HIV innovations and other strategic initiatives with focus on surveillance and/or monitoring.
- Experience of Global Fund/USAID policies, regulations, and procedures desirable.
- Exhibits a high level of accuracy in work, and ability to analyse complex sets of relationships and situations.
- Have a high sense of integrity and transparency.
- Ability to manage official information in a confidential manner.
- Ability to use multi-task and work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
