Breakthrough Action Nigeria (BA-N) is a USAID-funded Social Behaviour Change (SBC) and Risk Communication Project with the goal of increasing the practice of priority individual and household level health behaviors in target states on Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health plus Nutrition (MNCH+N), Family Planning (FP), Malaria, Tuberculosis, and Risk Communication and Community engagement (RCCE) for COVID and Priority Infectious diseases (Lassa fever, Monkey Pox). Firmly grounded in proven practices, Breakthrough ACTION works in partnership with governments, civil society, and communities around the world to implement creative and sustainable SBC programming, nurture SBC champions, mainstream new techniques, and technologies, and advocate strategic and sustained investment in SBC.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Provider Behavior Change Consultant

Location: Oyo
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • The Provider Behaviour Change Consultant will work with the technical guidance from the Provider Behaviour Change Advisor and operational support from the state coordinator.
  • S/he will serve as the technical point person for state level implementation of provider-focused SBC interventions in malaria case management, malaria in pregnancy and tuberculosis among healthcare providers in the state.

Major Activities / Responsibilities

  • Identify viable high client volume health facilities in the state with emphasis on PMI supported facilities and DOT sites.
  • Identify medical professional associations within the state and get familiar with their annual calendar with a view to engaging them during their programs.
  • Work closely with the State Ministry of Health and the State Malaria Elimination Program to support fever case management intervention to drive provider adherence to National Guidelines on Diagnosis and Treatment of Malaria and Malaria in Pregnancy
  • Coordinate and collaborate closely with malaria service delivery partners, government partners in the state to support fever case management intervention for providers.
  • Work closely with the State Ministry of Health and the State TBLCP to support intervention to improve TB case detection among healthcare providers.
  • Coordinate and collaborate closely with TB service delivery partners, government partners in the state to support intervention for health providers to improve interpersonal communication and counseling in TB and increase providers index of suspicion of TB among sick children and vulnerable groups.
  • With the support of the Provider Behaviour Change Advisor, drive the implementation of provider behavior initiative in the state.
  • Support collection and management of data on outcomes of PBC activities in collaboration with the state M&E Officer.
  • Submit monthly and quarterly activity reports.
  • Develop activity budgets and travel plans and work closely with Abuja and field staff to ensure sound stewardship of project funds.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Provider Behaviour Change Advisor and the Project Director, BA Nigeria Project.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of M.B.B.S. or RN
  • 5 years related working experience
  • Familiarity with the national malaria guidelines
  • Familiarity with the PHC system
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to initiate and implement activities with minimal oversight and supervision.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc).
