Job Title: Protection Field Officer (Maternity Cover)

Job Description
- Under the supervision of the Protection of Family Links Team Lead and Child Protection Delegate in Maiduguri, the Protection Field Officer implements Restoring Family Links (RFL) activities in a defined area of responsibilities (AOR) to respond adequately to the needs of families searching for their missing loved ones and to support the implementation of child Protection activities in Nigeria in line with the Strategy.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Contributes to the analysis and periodical synthesis of all relevant information pertinent to the PFL activities.
- Manages the caseload for the AOR including identifying and prioritizing action, maintaining contact with volunteers, attributing workload, assessing quality of work done.
- Coaches, supervises, and provides feedback to NRCS volunteers as they collect and treat RFL cases (UAM/SC, TC, RCM etc) in responsibility.
- Assists to deliver capacity-building trainings for NRCS RFL Volunteers.
- Occasionally translates RFL documents from local languages to English and vice versa.
- Supports in the compiling, cross-checking, and processing of volunteer incentives.
- Uses the institutional database (prot 6) to register cases, access reports, prepare working tools and search for beneficiaries.
- Works with other ICRC SDs and offices, NRCS Secretariat, and other delegation National societies to follow up individual CP cases in the field.
- Ensures the successful completion of ongoing projects and together with Child Protection Delegate evaluates the need for continuation, expansion and/or relevance for similar projects, as well as proposing relevant actions that address vulnerabilities and needs of affected children in line with the strategy.
- Is aware of the delegation objectives (PFR) and has a good knowledge of the Movement’s partners in the field, NRCS branches, humanitarian organizations, UN, and other interlocutors (authorities, armed forces, militias, elders, tribal leaders, etc.) for the institution to develop and implement relevant activities related to PFL and child protection.
- Interacts with affected population visiting or calling the office and to provide response to their enquiries.
- The Prot FO produces regular qualitative reporting and writes minutes or field trip reports after meetings and field trips.
Education and Experience Required
- University Degree in a relevant field, preferably in the field of Law
- 3 years experience in Protection/Tracing with very good command of the Prot6 database.
- Experience working in protection concerns, child protection experiences preferable.
- Excellent written and spoken English, Hausa and the following languages would be an asset: Kanuri and Shuaa-Arab
- Good computer skills: knowledge in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Applicants should have a Nigerian nationality or hold a working permit.

- Sound analytical skills, Good knowledge of the Area of Responsibility – AoR (Political, cultural and geographical)
- Ability to communicate with children in an appropriate and child-friendly manner.
- Ability to work independently, and capacity to take initiatives when appropriate.
- Leadership skills with ability to manage and supervise tasks with effectiveness as per the set priorities.
- Able to work under pressure, flexible and open to extra working hours if necessary.
- Capacity to carry out activities and manage files of importance in the field of ICRC PROT activities (RFL, PCP and Missing).
