Programme Support Volunteer (Protection) at Smile for All Children Initiative (SMILE’s)


Smile for All Children Initiative (SMILE’s) is a vision birthed from deep concerns for challenged children in our society, some of whom are separated from their primary caregivers, others living with most vulnerable parents and others who are largely neglected and abandoned. These categories of children characterizes over 60% of children around the Northeast Nigeria, largely because of the prolong insurgency.

Role Purpose:

  • The Programme Support Volunteer PSV (Protection) is responsible for the implementation of SMILE’s Programme activities in Borno State, Nigeria and reports to the Line Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

In addition to the requirements listed below, regular attendance in the workplace is an essential function of this position and must comply with policies, procedures and ethical conduct at all times.  

  • Work closely with education officer to ensure the quality implementation of Child Protection activities in the field.
  • Lead on case management activities and be supervisor in the designated field sites, including coordinating and sharing data with other service providers using the new Case Management SOPs, annexes, forms and handbook.
  • Prepare monthly activity plans with line staff as necessary and ensure smooth implementation of these plans.
  • Set up/strengthen child protection committees, including training and awareness raising on child protection law in their communities and linking children to available services.
  • Set up/support and monitor child protection help desks to identify, support and refer children with protection concerns.
  • Monitor and assess the implementation of the program, ensuring that case workers are using the case management forms consistently and correctly.
  • Ensure quality and timely registration of recovered abductees and at-risk children including UASC.
  • Ensure all data from the case management are kept confidential and only shared on a need-to-know bases and in accordance with case management SoP.
  • Perform other functions related to GBV prevention and response including establishment and management of complaints and feedback mechanism.

  • Operates with proficiency in a variety of office equipment including an office computer, a variety of word processing, spreadsheets, analytical and data management, project management software and applications as well as some graphic and presentation programmes.  
  • Strong skill set in prioritizing, strategizing, meeting deadlines and following up on assignments and roles and responsibilities with minimum supervision.  
  • Successful candidate will be creative, visionary, proactive, highly dynamic, and versatile, organized, a team builder, at home with computing, and interested in working on new challenges.   Education and Experience:   

  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree or HND in Health, Social Sciences or any related field Management which will provide knowledge of the principles, practices and Health of non-profits.  
  • Minimum of One (1) years of operations and leadership experience of full-time progressively complex and responsible related work experience directly involved with Field operations, Programmes development, Health or related areas. An NGO work-related environment is preferred. 
  • Fluency in speaking and understanding English, Kanuri and Hausa.
