Lafiya Nigeria is a global health non-profit organisation that offers an innovative solution to strengthen the social infrastructure of Nigeria by empowering women through access to contraception. We work with Nigerian female health professionals to spread awareness of the benefits of family planning in their local communities, and they are also last-mile delivery agents of contraceptives. We operate in far-to-reach communities that otherwise do not have access to contraceptive products and information.

  • Reporting to the co-founders of Lafiya Nigeria, the Program Officer will have strategic responsibility and overall operational responsibility for Lafiya Nigeria programs and will manage and work with a small group of part-time employees and volunteers.
  • The Program Officer will oversee the operations on the ground, including procurement, distribution, training, and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Finally, the Program Officer will cultivate existing relationships with key stakeholders in the Family Planning landscape in Nigeria and negotiate grants.
  • The Officer will be expected to manage and deliver work plans on a day-to-day basis as part of a small and efficient team, working closely with the Kebbi- and Jigawa- based Program Officers.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the core team of Lafiya Nigeria, the Program Officer will have the following responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the core team, build and maintain partnerships and relationships with program partners, such as non-profits, federal agencies and community organizations, in order to expand resources, raise funding and educate the public about the work of the project.
  • Contribute to developing project Implementation Plans, training manuals/curricula and research projects.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring annual work plans, program initiatives and budget development.
  • Support effective project management, and coordination and provide support to partners on the project implementation procedure, data management and effective financial management.
  • Provide support as needed, the preparation and timely submission of detailed reports by the partners on project activities on a quarterly and annual basis in compliance with project requirements.
  • Support the development of annual, quarterly donor and government report writing, including management and updates.
  • Participate in project monitoring and supportive supervision of partners, project sites and communities.
  • Manage staff and volunteers as the team grows.
  • Provide support to all programme activities for the state
  • Assist in the collection of data to inform and support Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Research related activities.
  • Represent Lafiya Nigeria at various meetings, technical working groups and relevant forums.
  • Submit a monthly report to the co-founders.

  • The candidate should demonstrate a passion for family planning interventions and global health. Beyond that, we are seeking a candidate with a demonstrated ability to perform consistently at a high level.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional work experience on a global health project in Nigeria.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including budget development, event planning, and coordinating multiple partners and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated strength and experience in writing technical reports.
  • Strong commitment to Lafiya Nigeria’s mission, purpose and values.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills; fluency in the English language is essential and fluency in Hausa is desirable.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, ability to solve problems and resourcefulness.
