The Pediatric Specialist will provide comprehensive medical care to infants, children, and adolescents. This role involves diagnosing and treating illnesses, monitoring growth and development, and advising parents on children’s health, safety, nutrition, and fitness needs.

Job Summary

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

– Conducting thorough examinations on newborns and young children to check and record their health and normal physical development

– Diagnose and treat various medical conditions, including acute illnesses, chronic diseases, and developmental concerns.

– Prescribe and administer treatments, medications, and vaccinations.

– Monitor and track patients’ growth and development, ensuring milestones are met.

– Provide guidance on nutrition, exercise, safety, and health maintenance.

– Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.

– Keep detailed records of patients’ histories, examinations, and treatments.

– Educate parents and caregivers about children’s health conditions and preventative care measures.

– Stay current with advancements in pediatric medicine and integrate new knowledge into clinical practice.

– Participate in community outreach programs to promote pediatric health.

– Adhere to all relevant medical, ethical, and legal standards and guidelines.

– Ensure optimum staff performance with an emphasis on customer service and delivery of quality patient care:
– Conduct daily ward rounds for support to MDs, observation and review of patients.
-Regularly visit and assess all new borns in the hospital
-Regularly monitor patients’ progress and provide documentation.
-Attend to Pediatric emergency cases when necessary and be on 24 hrs call.
-Carry out emergency Pediatric procedures.
-Ensure complete daily documentation of patient case notes/files
– Ensure complete discharge, referral and feedback procedures for patients
– Counsel patients and relatives on health management.
– Maintain regular contacts with heads of other departments to ensure harmonization of patients’ management.
– Ensure timely availability of required support services in the process of treating patients, particularly when referred to other specialists.
– Liaise with other consultants on handling specialized cases in provision of patients’ health care.
– Prepare timely and accurate medical reports, audits and mortality reviews. Responsible for presenting and distributing these reports to appropriate users

– Ensure medical records activities are effectively implemented.
– Ensure hospital standard and other quality system is effectively implemented.
– Any other duties assigned by head of pediatric department.

Qualifications

Medical degree with specialization in pediatrics from an accredited institution.

– Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

– Commitment to continuous professional development and learning.

– At lease have 2-4 years of relevant experience.

-Extensive knowledge of diagnostic, treatment, and rehabilitation processes Current information regarding drugs and medications acceptable for children and the side effects

-Be able to uphold and respect Contracts ethics and to conduct activities with integrity.

-To be a good team player who demonstrates patience, flexibility and honesty.
