Job Title: NGO Coordinator

Job Description

  • We are seeking a NGO Coordinator in Nigeria for a project that will help young people in Nigeria and Pakistan with knowledge and behaviours that reduce investment in risky migration and that will increase the influence of women around irregular migration.

The main project activities include:

  • Provide training and advice to civil society and media organisations to advance a feminist foreign policy by increasing the visibility and voice of women on irregular migration topics
  • Face to face and remote counselling support to youth who are investing in irregular migration plans
  • Facilitating teacher training to empower and motivate them to help teenagers think critically about irregular migration issues
  • Social media campaign to promote campaign messages
  • An NGO Coordinator has the responsibility for driving the project’s civil society capacity-building activities.

This includes:

  • Identifying, selecting and building relationships with civil society and media organisations to advance a feminist foreign policy in topics related to irregular migration and who are interested in joining our programme
  • Providing training and advice to initiate communications activities that promote women’s perspectives on irregular migration issues
  • Participating in the selection process for projects that will receive in-depth mentoring to design, implement, monitor and evaluate a communications project
  • Providing ongoing mentoring to selected organisations, in person and online
  • Representing Seefar Foundation and the project to external audiences
  • An NGO Coordinator must be empathetic, confident and influential.
  • You must have at least 5 years of professional experience with extensive experience in civil society engagement and training delivery.
  • You will also have experience in communications or media in Nigeria.
  • You will have demonstrable experience working with various stakeholders and will have an interest in working with vulnerable communities.
  • You must be a strong leader who is intrinsically motivated, well organised, and an effective communicator.
  • Fluency in English and one other local language (Yoruba or Edo) is compulsory. You must be based in Lagos or Benin City.
  • Position terms
  • This is a full time, 4 month position. Although most of the job can be carried out remotely, certain elements of the job will be carried out in person. Ad hoc travel will be required.
  • You will be required to participate in a paid, remote training at the start of your contract.

Responsibilities
The following are the primary responsibilities of the role.

Deliver: Project and Mission Implementation:

  • Identify, select and build relationships with civil society and media organisations who are interested in joining our programme.
  • Deliver training and ongoing advice to initiate communications activities that promote women’s perspectives on irregular migration issues.
  • Be part of a panel that will select projects to receive a grant from the programme.
  • Provide selected projects with in-depth mentoring to design, implement, create a monitoring and evaluation plan.
  • Support the Project Manager with project development and reporting.
  • Provide thematic inputs to the project team relating to migration, modern slavery and livelihoods, as advised.
  • Cooperate with other areas of Seefar, including to communicate substantive and administrative information that supports corporate management overall.
  • Represent Seefar Foundation and the project to external audiences.

Requirements
Confirm you meet these minimum requirements:

  • A minimum of five years professional experience in CSO engagement and media/communications projects;
  • Experience delivering training and mentoring;
  • Experience in media or communications in Nigeria;
  • Strong ties with the local community and institutions;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to create partnerships with various stakeholders ranging from grassroots to government;
  • Fluency in English and a local language (Edo or Yoruba);
  • Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills;
  • Computer literacy and access to a stable Internet connection;
  • Strong knowledge of migration and women’s issues;
  • Experience working with vulnerable groups, and a thorough understanding of confidentiality.
