TRAINEE PLAIDOYER – MISSION France F/H

Context:

Doctors Without Borders, an international humanitarian medical association created in 1971, provides medical assistance to populations whose lives are threatened: mainly in the event of armed conflicts, but also of’ epidemics, pandemics, natural disasters or’ exclusion of care. The French section is present in about thirty countries.

Since December 2017, Mission France has been providing assistance to migrants.

It ensures the medical, psychological, legal and social care of people excluded from health care and advocates for the’ access to the care of vulnerable foreign people, in particular unaccompanied minors (ANM).

The Mission France currently has three projects:

– Ile de France and Marseille : the projects are focused on the multidisciplinary care (medical, psychological, social and legal) of unaccompanied minors on appeal.

– Calais : the project is for migrants on the North coast.

Main Mission:

In the France mission of Doctors Without Borders, the under the hierarchical responsibility of the/the Advocacy Manager, he/she participates in the implementation of advocacy actions supporting field and coordination teams in the’context analysis and data collection for advocacy purposes.

Responsibilities:

Main missions : Data collection

Data from projects :

  • He/she participates in the capitalization of qualitative data collected on projects by going to the field and participating in the transcription of testimonies of team members, their formatting (including anonymization) and their archiving.
  • He/she participates in the processing of quantitative data collected on projects (cleaning, control of input and consistency, formatting – tables, graphs, ..) in order to support the requests for advocacy of the mission: highlighting the consequences of living conditions and/or violence suffered on the course on the health of migrants.

Secondary data:

  • He/she participates in the collection of secondary data and research concerning the local, national and international context (on the migration path), with regard to the advocacy themes addressed by the mission.
  • He/she supports the advocacy manager and project managers in the’analysis of indirect data collected for advocacy purposes.

Secondary missions

Monitoring and analysis of the context :

  • He/she monitors the work and legislative proposals related to the advocacy themes of the mission, and reports to the Advocacy Manager the elements relevant to MSF or the context.
  • He/she monitors the speaking engagements and positions of key political leaders and the positions of other associations and signals positioning opportunities for MSF.
  • He/she proposes, if necessary, lobbying initiatives or other advocacy action in response to the identified opportunities.

Implementation of the advocacy strategy :

  • He/she participates in the’ elaboration and’writing of advocacy content and materials (mail,’alert note, information note, synthesis, report, ..).
  • He/she may be required to provide proofreading and translation of certain advocacy products intended for policy makers, representatives of’institutions or other partner (french – english /english – french).

Other tasks :

  • He/she participates in the organization of internal and external events related to current and future advocacy activities of the MSF France mission.
  • He/she participates in reporting advocacy activities.

Profile sought

Training / Experience:

  • Master level 2 in the processing and analysis of’information, in the humanities and social sciences, in political sciences or public policies required (Bac+4 or more).
  • Technical knowledge of data collection (questionnaire, interview)
  • A first experience in the humanitarian sector and/or data collection and analysis would be appreciated.
  • Knowledge of migration-related topics desirable.

Skills :

  • Good writing ability /Good research,’analysis and synthesis ability.
  • Mastery of the Microsoft Office pack (especially Excel).
  • Interest in the humanitarian/associative environment and migration.

Qualities required:

  • Autonomy / Rigorous, methodical, organized mind / Interest and curiosity for solidarity actions and humanitarian’ /Sensitivity for migration-related issues.
  • Flexibility,’adaptation ability / Good relationship, diplomacy / Teamwork.

Languages : French C2. English B2 minimum.

Status & Conditions :

”’T Post to be filled as soon as possible.

”’T Internship d’a duration of 6 months, full time. Convention of compulsory internship.

”Poste based in Paris in the 19th arrondissement, metro Jaures, including a significant share (at least 25% of the time) of travel on the grounds (Marseille, Calais, Ile-de-France). Support for the costs related to transport and’accommodation during travel in the field. C

7,35€ to 7,70€ gross per hour depending on the level of studies.

1 Restaurant ticket is awarded per day worked, d’a face value of 11€ (60% supported by Doctors Without Borders).

2 Days of rest paid per month (for internships longer than one month).

50% of the’abonnement transport en public (no pick-up of train tickets for residents outside Ile de France coming to work in Paris).
