Job Title: Mental Health for Adolescent and Youth Specialist
Locations: Abuja and Rivers

Job Description
- S/he will conduct progress reports by monitoring and evaluating response to treatment, attending staff meetings and clinical rounds, and completing required status reports and paperwork
- S/he will facilitate treatment programs and cottage groups on various topics (i.e. anger management, relationship building, self-esteem, etc.)
- S/he will protect the youth/adolescent from physical and emotional harm emanating from themselves, others, or the environment including the use of the Therapeutic Crisis Model of Intervention
- S/he will provide a structured environment and provide day-to-day care for the youths
- S/he will care for the youth/adolescent environment, which includes maintaining its neatness and cleanliness
- S/he will provide individualized intervention for problematic behaviors using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) techniques such as de-escalation, to prevent and/or manage crisis
- S/he will assist and encourage youths with Activities of Daily Living (ADL), including feeding, ambulating, and hygiene to promote patient care
- S/he will utilize rehabilitation principles to support individuals, families, and communities in developing effective strategies to improve youth/adolescent mental health functioning
- S/he will provide psychological care to youths in an in-patient psych unit, including facilitating group activities, crisis intervention, implementing therapeutic approaches
- S/he will meet physical requirements to complete Safeguarding Adolescent Mental Health (SAMA) training
- S/he will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to support the children’s education plans, behavioral and ADL goals, and relationship-building skills
- S/he will render direct youth care and services to high-acuity mentally and cognitively impaired youths in the hospital setting
- S/he will provide specialized care and direct supervision for mentally ill children and adolescents directed toward optimal care and rehabilitation
- S/he will provide administrative oversight
- S/he will regularly and systematically collect, enter, and report youths data;
- S/he will connect with the parent or legal guardian of the identified case-managed youth
- S/he will provide timely reports with data and program information
- S/he will provide leadership, as requested, in securing community resources and partners
- S/he will facilitate one-on-one and group sessions that actively promote healthy lifestyle choices as well as optimal emotional, social, and mental health
- S/he will be contacting caregivers after the initial referral, and sending referral information to the appropriate parties
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or HND preferred in Psychology, Social Work, Therapy, or Counseling programs
- A Master’s Degree or equivalent in Public Health, Epidemiology, Clinical Psychology, Nursing, and/or Midwifery, an MPH, MBBS, Medical, or other relevant Master’s Degree will be an added advantage
- Good organizational and follow-up skills
- Sensitivity in relating to persons of varying backgrounds and demonstrating ability to work with diverse groups of people possessing various strengths, aptitudes, and abilities
- Ability to perform job responsibilities with a high degree of initiative and independent judgment
- Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse community groups
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Case Management experience is a plus
- Knowledge of PEPFAR Program reporting requirements including familiarity with the data collection and reporting tools
- Proficiency in working with ICT systems, MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. R will be an added advantage.
