Job Role:
TPO Nigeria is seeking skilled Livelihood Trainers to provide comprehensive training in agricultural-related skills to empower beneficiaries who are planning to relocate to their respective Local Government Areas (LGAs) after exiting a rehabilitation center. The training will equip them with the knowledge and practical skills required to build sustainable livelihoods.
Position: Livelihood Trainers (4 Positions)
Location: Maiduguri, Borno State
Duration: Six Months
Closing Date: 28th October, 2023
Training Skills: As a Livelihood Trainer, your responsibilities will include providing training in a range of agricultural-related skills, including:
- Crop cultivation, covering planting, nurturing, and harvesting techniques suitable to the local climate and soil conditions.
- Livestock management, including skills in raising and caring for animals, such as poultry, goats, or cows, addressing feeding, health care, and breeding.
- Fish farming, encompassing pond management, fish care, and harvesting methods.
- Beekeeping for honey production, including hive management, honey extraction, and marketing.
- Irrigation techniques, to set up and manage irrigation systems for ensuring an adequate water supply for crops.
- Organic farming practices to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
- Understanding the various stages of agricultural value chains, from production to processing, marketing, and distribution.
- Training in agribusiness skills, covering marketing, business planning, and adding value to agricultural products.
- Selecting appropriate seeds and implementing crop rotation for maintaining soil fertility.
- Soil management, involving soil testing, improvement, and conservation techniques for ensuring healthy and productive soil.
- Pest and disease control, including identifying, preventing, and managing crop diseases and pests using environmentally friendly methods.
- Techniques for proper post-harvest handling, storage, and preservation of harvested agricultural products to minimize losses.
- Farm record-keeping for tracking farm activities, expenses, and income to ensure profitability.
- Adapting farming practices to climate change and implementing measures to mitigate its impact.
- Operating and maintaining essential farm machinery and equipment safely.
- Encouraging beneficiaries to work together in agricultural cooperatives to pool resources and share knowledge.
- Basic financial management skills, encompassing budgeting, savings, and accessing credit for agricultural ventures.
- Conducting market research to identify demand and opportunities for agricultural products in the region.
- Promoting sustainable agriculture methods that conserve natural resources and protect the environment.
- Understanding the risks associated with farming and developing strategies to mitigate them.
Qualifications/Experiences:
- Minimum of a Diploma in relevant fields (Agriculture-related courses) with at least two years of working experience preferably in an emergency setting.
- Good communication skills with fluency in written and spoken English.
- Good IT skills, including the use of Word and database software.
- Demonstrable ability to adapt to changing program priorities.
- Strong self-starter, able to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.
- Commitment to TPO Protection Policy.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of local languages.
- Experience and skills in the management of staff.
- Experience in designing and facilitating training sessions.
- Understanding of the regional dynamics of the relevant field.
- Experience in working in an insecure environment.
