Job Summary
- As a Legal/Corporate Lawyer at a Property Development Company based in Lagos, you will play a key role in providing legal guidance and support across the company.Â
- You will handle a wide range of corporate legal matters, including contract negotiations, compliance, intellectual property, and risk management.
- Your expertise will help ensure that the company operates within the law and maintains its innovative edge in the technology sector.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts, including vendor agreements, partnership contracts, licensing agreements, and NDAs. Â
- Ensure that all contracts align with the company’s interests and comply with applicable laws and regulations. Â
- Provide legal advice on contract terms and assist in the resolution of any contract disputes. Â
- Advise on corporate governance matters, including board activities, shareholder agreements, and company policies. Â
- Â Assist in the preparation and management of corporate documents, including articles of incorporation, bylaws, and minutes of meetings. Â
- Â Ensure compliance with all corporate regulatory requirements and filings. Â
- Monitor and ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards, particularly in data protection, intellectual property and employment law. Â
- Develop and implement internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Â
- Provide training to employees on compliance matters and legal issues relevant to the technology industry
- Advise on the protection and management of the company’s intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. Â
-  Assist in the registration of IP rights and handle any IP-related disputes or litigation. Â
- Work closely with the product and engineering teams to ensure that new products and technologies are properly protected. Â
- Identify and assess legal risks associated with the company’s business activities and provide strategic advice to mitigate those risks. Â
- Manage legal disputes, including handling litigation, arbitration, and settlements as necessary. Â
- Support the company’s efforts in risk management and legal due diligence in connection with mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions. Â
- Provide legal counsel on a wide range of issues, including employment law, privacy law, and corporate law. Â
- Collaborate with external legal counsel as needed, managing relationships and coordinating efforts on complex legal matters. Â
- Keep abreast of legal developments in the technology sector and provide updates to the leadership team on relevant changes in law and regulations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law Â
- Admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction
- 5-7+ years of experience as a corporate lawyer, preferably with experience in the technology industry. Â
- Strong background in contract law, corporate governance, and compliance. Â
- In-depth knowledge of corporate law, intellectual property law, and regulatory compliance. Â
- Strong negotiation and drafting skills. Â
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. Â
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Â
- High level of integrity and professionalism. Â
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Â
- Proficiency in legal research tools and software.Â
