Job Description
- Perform clinical laboratory activities according to MSF protocols, security, and hygiene measures to obtain results that determine the patient’s treatment.
Responsibilities
- According to medical prescription, prepare and perform clinical exams/tests with appropriate techniques, following MSF protocols and procedures.
- This function includes, among others:
- Taking blood, vaginal, and urethral samples.
- Centrifuging blood and urine samples.
- Performing laboratory exams (serology, hematology, biochemistry, bacteriology, or parasitological, according to the context of the mission).
- Ensuring proper reporting and registration of the sample results to maintain a written track of activity and provide information to the relevant persons, ensuring confidentiality.
- Taking care of, managing, and efficiently organizing the laboratory material/equipment.
- Performing cleaning and minor maintenance of biomedical equipment used. Following the user manual and protocols and alerting the supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
- Applying hygiene and safety protocols, including daily cleaning/maintenance, sterilization, and washing general glassware after procedures are completed.
- Ensuring proper sample waste disposal according to MSF protocols and the highest safety standards.
- Supplying orders, conducting stock checks, following up on storage conditions, and keeping inventory.
- Keeping the data collection system of laboratory results and all information generated from the analysis organized.
- Reporting all relevant information linked to laboratory activity to the line manager, especially the loss/robbery/damage of laboratory equipment or medicines.
- Performing minor maintenance and cleaning of biomedical equipment following user manuals and protocols, and alerting the supervisor in case of malfunctioning devices.
- Participating in the morning departmental meetings and ensuring written handover is done before leaving the service.
- Ensuring knowledge and application of updated MSF protocols, policies, and guidelines.
- Participating in on-the-job and other laboratory-related training for both lab and non-lab staff.
- Issuing accurate and reliable emergency laboratory test results to the respective wards/units in a timely manner.
- Participating in transfusion activities, including blood transfusion file review.
- Participating in Quality Improvement staff meetings whenever required.
- Actively participating in other project activities and meetings.
- Participating in the development of reforms in working strategies.
- Participating in new laboratory investigations when implemented.
- Participating in routine weekly lab on-job training.
- Performing any other context-specific laboratory duties as assigned by the direct-line supervisor from time to time.
Requirements
- Â Essential Laboratory Technician diploma/degree.
- A minimum of 1 year of working experience is essential.
- Mission language desirable and local language essential.
- Essential computer literacy (Word, Excel, and Internet).
- Results, teamwork, flexibility, commitment, service.
Remuneration
According to the MSF salary scale, this is plus a 13th-month allowance, equivalent to 1 month of gross salary.
