Field

The Global Health project advises the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) on various topics of global health policy, such as the containment of infectious diseases, the role of multilateral health initiatives, strengthening health systems and the promotion of digital approaches. The project engages in a lively exchange with actors in German and international development cooperation and thus makes a direct contribution to shaping global health policy. The position is located in the “Fund Advisory” component with a focus on the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM), Global Alliance for Diagnostics (FIND) and Unitaid.

Your tasks

  • Support for BMZ’s technical and strategic advice on the GFATM as well as on FIND and Unitaid in the form of statements, draft speeches, position papers, state of play and comments in German and English
  • Support for the preparation and follow-up of BMZ’s participation in international conferences, committees, political dialogue events and strategic workshops
  • Ongoing analysis of relevant health policy discourses and developments, in particular on the global health architecture and the role of the above-mentioned health initiatives
  • Support in coordination with the commissioning authority BMZ and cooperation with other projects within GIZ as well as with international partners
  • Contributing to higher-level activities relevant to the internal team; e.g. knowledge management, in close coordination with the component management

Your profile

  • Completed Master’s degree in Health Sciences or Political, Economic and Social Sciences
  • Basic knowledge of multilateral health initiatives such as the GFATM, as well as Germany’s priorities in global health policy
  • First professional experience; e.g. through internships on health topics in international cooperation with middle- and low-income countries, in BMZ’s policy advice, or in multilateral health initiatives
  • Affinity for writing concise texts, as well as the ability to quickly familiarize yourself with complex issues
  • Very good strategic-conceptual thinking and analytical skills
  • High level of self-motivation and learning skills as well as independent and structured way of working
  • Strong ability to work in a team and high social and intercultural competence
  • Fluent in German and English

Willingness to travel regularly is required.
