Job Summary

  • We are a reputable Full-service law firm seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Chambers (HOC) to provide strategic leadership and oversee the firm’s diverse legal practice, including litigation, dispute resolution, corporate/commercial law, regulatory compliance, and general legal advisory.
  • The ideal candidate should be a seasoned senior lawyer with strong advocacy, commercial awareness, and leadership skills who can manage a team of lawyers, maintain high professional standards, and drive the firm’s continued growth and reputation for excellence.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Practice Management:

  • Provide strategic direction and oversee day-to-day operations of the chambers across all practice areas.
  • Supervise and allocate cases to associates, ensuring quality, efficiency, and timely delivery of legal services.
  • Mentor and develop junior lawyers and legal support staff, fostering a culture of excellence, ethics, and professional growth.
  • Report directly to the Managing Partner on the progress of cases, team performance, and practice development.

Litigation & Dispute Resolution:

  • Act as lead counsel in high-profile litigation, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution matters.
  • Draft, review, and settle pleadings, motions, and other court processes while supervising associates handling similar matters.
  • Advise clients on complex legal disputes, risk assessment, and case strategies.

Corporate/Commercial & General Legal Advisory:

  • Lead major corporate and commercial transactions, including mergers & acquisitions, contract negotiations, regulatory compliance, and company secretarial matters.
  • Provide strategic legal opinions and practical business-oriented solutions to clients across various sectors.

Client Relationship & Business Development:

  • Maintain and grow client relationships by ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality legal services.
  • Participate in business development initiatives, including networking, pitching, and representation at industry events.
  • Enhance the firm’s brand reputation as a leading full-service law firm.

Knowledge Management & Compliance:

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of legal precedents, templates, and resources.
  • Ensure full compliance with regulatory and ethical standards of the Nigerian Bar Association and other relevant bodies.
  • Growth in client portfolio and revenue generation.
  • Proven track record in leading legal teams and managing complex, high-value cases and transactions.
  • Excellent advocacy, drafting, negotiation, and legal advisory skills.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and people management abilities.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and adherence to professional ethics.

Core Competencies & Skills:

  • Sound knowledge of Nigerian legal and regulatory frameworks.
  • Commercially astute with strategic problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and Microsoft Office Suite.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B), B.L (Nigerian Bar); LL.M or relevant certifications.
  • Minimum of 10–15 years post-call experience, with substantial exposure to both litigation and corporate/commercial practice.

Problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
