Job Title: Head, Central Stores

Job Purpose/Summary

  • The National Head of Stores is responsible for overseeing the overall management of all company stores across different locations, including inventory control, stock management, warehouse operations, ensuring proper storage conditions, and coordinating with various departments to maintain optimal stock levels while minimizing losses, all on a national scale; essentially acting as the leader of the entire stores function within an organization.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
Strategic Planning:

  • Develop and implement a national stores strategy aligned with company goals, including inventory optimization and cost control measures.
  • Set performance metrics and targets for all stores across the country.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement in store operations.

Operational Management:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of all company stores, ensuring smooth receipt, storage, and issuance of inventory.
  • Monitor stock levels at all locations and implement reordering strategies to maintain optimal stock availability.
  • Manage warehouse operations, including space utilization, receiving, picking, packing, and shipping procedures.

Staff Management

  • Recruit, hire, and train store staff across all locations, ensuring they are adequately trained in inventory management practices.
  • Develop and implement performance management plans for store personnel
  • Provide leadership and support to store managers to achieve operational goals.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures related to stores operations, including safety regulations.
  • Generate regular reports on inventory levels, stock movement, and performance metrics to senior management.
  • Monitor and manage compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or a related field.
  • Advanced Degrees like an MBA, can be beneficial.
  • Certified Warehouse Manager (CWM) – AWA, Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) – APICS  and other relevant certifications
  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience in procurement
  • Significant experience in a tier 1 senior warehouse management role.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing commodity strategies to deliver improved supplier cost performance.
  • Experience with industry-standard ERP systems, global warehouse organisations and extensive knowledge of the fundamentals of warehouse operations.
