As the name implies, this organization aims to take proactive initiatives to support and empower women, men, girls, and boys concerning factors that affect their physical, emotional, social, economic, and psychological or psychosocial health and well-being.

IDEA-INTERNATIONAL’s overarching vision is to make communities safe and healthy places to live. A key focus of the organization is to prioritize health, community health as well as reproductive health education, particularly among the most vulnerable populations. Additionally, IDEA-INTERNATIONAL is dedicated to preventing or eradicating all forms of violence against women and girls by actively working to enhance gender equality within homes and communities. IDEA international implements education programs including STEM Education for women and girls. IDEA International Nigeria is seeking a committed and experienced candidate for the position of Finance Officer who will be in charge of the day-to day financial aspects of the organization working under the Country Director.

Position Summary:

The Finance Officer of IDEA-international has financial management duties to cover the organization needs. He/she must be familiar with audits, invoices and budget preparations. IDEA-international Finance officer should have interest in managing accounting activities, including bank reconciliations, accounts payable and accounts receivable. He/she should also have excellent organizational skills and be able to handle time-sensitive tasks. Ultimately, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day management of our financial transactions, processes and procedures in line with our financial policies.

Finance Officer Responsibilities include amongst others:

  • Keep accurate records for all daily transactions
  • Prepare balance sheets
  • Process invoices
  • Record accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Update internal systems with financial data
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports
  • Prepare IDEA- international Staff or Employees monthly payroll
  • Reconcile bank statements
  • Participate in financial audits
  • Track bank deposits and payments
  • Assist with budget preparation
  • Review and implement financial policies
  • Manage all IDEA International finances and donors’ funds
  • Review, validate, approve and rejects any requests that is short of all requirement or is not a priority and track all expenses.
  • Evaluate and report the financial situation of the organization and loan program.
  • Contribute to the development, monitoring and management of program and projects budget.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Senior Coordination, Representation and Advocacy

  • Represent IDEA International in all relevant coordination meetings and with a range of stakeholders, partners, donor community and government agencies as requested and as required.
  • Advocate as necessary with relevant authorities, donors, and other stakeholders in support of the organization.

Human Resources Management

  • Contribute in recruiting/Selecting and orienting new finance staff if need be.
  • Support, coach and supervise other finance staff to build capacity as will be required.
  • Develop support strategies for staff, foster teambuilding.
  • Provide supportive and constructive feedback, and conduct regular performance appraisals of other finance staff if any.

Security and Conduct

  • Ensure compliance with security protocols and policies
  • Consider security implications in financial management
  • Foster a safe and supportive working environment for all staff/volunteers/partners/costumers.
  • Contribute to the positive image and overall credibility of the organization and loan program, notably through adherence to the Code of Conduct and Ethics, including compliance with anti-harassment, safeguarding and PSEA policies as mentioned below.

Requirements and skills

  • Proven work experience as a Finance Officer or similar role
  • Solid knowledge of financial and accounting procedures
  • Experience using financial software
  • Advanced MS Excel skills
  • Knowledge of financial regulations
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills
  • Sharp time management skills
  • Strong ethics, with an ability to manage confidential data
  • AA or BSc degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics
  • Diplomacy, negotiation and networking skills
  • Ability to work under a minimum of supervision
  • Willing to live and work in challenging conditions
  • Reactivity, anticipation, adaptability, capacity to take initiatives
  • Strong problem solving and organisational skills in day to day and crisis situations
  • Ability to classify and to manage priorities.

Languages:

  • English: Fluent (oral and written).
  • Being able to speak and write local languages: Hausa, Kanuri, etc will be an added advantage.
