Job Title: Engineering Lab Technologist

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • The Engineering Laboratory Technologist supports teaching, research, and practical training by maintaining and operating engineering lab equipment, preparing experiments, ensuring safety compliance, and providing technical assistance to students and faculty.
  • The role ensures the smooth functioning of engineering labs across disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, civil, or mechatronics engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare laboratory setups and materials for practical sessions, demonstrations, and research activities.
  • Install, calibrate, operate, and maintain engineering laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Assist faculty and students in conducting laboratory experiments and interpreting results.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and protocols within the lab.
  • Troubleshoot and repair laboratory instruments and equipment as needed.
  • Keep accurate inventory and maintenance records of lab tools and supplies.
  • Train and guide students on the proper use of lab equipment and safety procedures.
  • Support in the development of new experimental setups and technical procedures.
  • Monitor lab usage and report any issues or hazards to the department head.
  • Participate in procurement and budgeting processes for lab supplies and equipment.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Engineering Technology, Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Certification: Membership or registration with relevant professional or regulatory bodies is an added advantage.
  • Experience: 2–3 years working in an academic, research, or industrial engineering laboratory.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in the use and maintenance of engineering lab tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong technical and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Good knowledge of safety regulations and quality control standards.
  • Competent in reading and interpreting technical manuals and schematics.
  • Effective communication and organizational abilities.
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping and report writing.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent interaction with equipment and materials in workshop/laboratory settings.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required.
  • May involve lifting, standing, and exposure to noise, dust, or machinery.

Salary
N150,000 – N250,000 Monthly.
