Center for Advocacy, Transparency and Accountability Initiative (CATAI), established in 2018, is registered as an NGO with Head Office in Maiduguri – Borno State. We have been visible in Borno Adamawa and Yobe states implementing projects in protection, community empowerment, livelihood, environment, health, peace building, education and governance. We are currently implementing the ECW-MYRP Project year 3. Job Title: Education Assistant
Locations: Kalabarge – Adamawa and Mubi – Borno
Employment Type: Contract
Reports To: Education Officer
Contract Term: 12 months
(3 months probation period)
Job Description
- The Education Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Education Officer and Education Manager, providing essential support for the day-to-day implementation of funded projects that focus on both formal and non-formal education.
- This role will involve assisting with data collection, documentation, teacher support, and coordination with schools and community stakeholders.
- The education assistant will also support the facilitation of educational activities and the smooth operation of learning centers.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the daily implementation of teaching and learning activities at learning centers, ensuring they align with project objectives.
- Help in maintaining accurate enrollment data, monitoring learner retention, and reporting any discrepancies or issues to the education officer.
- Work closely with school heads, the School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs), community stakeholders, and local education authorities to ensure smooth operations and proper learner enrollment.
- Assist in the implementation of educational programs designed to improve student enrollment and retention.
Support Teacher Training:
- Aid in organizing and supporting in-service teacher/facilitator training sessions, ensuring that training materials are available and that sessions run smoothly.
- Ensure that teachers receive necessary support to meet the training needs identified by the education officer.
- Assist in the distribution of scholastic materials and resources to students and facilitators, based on the identified needs at the learning centers.
- Ensure materials are tracked and that distribution is completed efficiently and on time.
Monitoring and Reporting:
- Support the monitoring of student progress in learning spaces and report findings to the education officer.
- Assist in preparing weekly progress reports and share updates with the education officer in a timely manner.
Budget and Resource Management:
- Help with managing and tracking the project’s budget, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and that there is no under- or overspending.
- Assist in tracking and reporting on procurement processes, ensuring adherence to the project budget.
Coordination and Representation:
- Represent CATAI at coordination meetings and assist with organizing local-level meetings.
- Liaise with the education officer to ensure effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders.
- Assist the education officer in maintaining accurate and organized documentation, including learner data, project activities, and monitoring reports.
- Work with the M&E team to ensure timely submission of reports, including 5Ws, and ensure proper storage of documents and Means of Verification (MOVs).
- Provide general support to the education officer, including assisting with logistical arrangements for meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
- Assist with the smooth implementation of accelerated education programs.
Skills and Qualifications
- B.Sc / BA /B.Ed in Education, HND, NCE Social Sciences, or equivalent field experience
- At least 3 years of progressive experience in Education, and humanitarian education programs.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work well with diverse teams and community stakeholders.
- Basic knowledge of education systems and challenges in formal and non-formal settings.
- Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation tools and data collection techniques is an advantage.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Previous experience in capacity building/training facilitation is desirable.
- Ability to adapt and work effectively in remote areas, work in a challenging work environment with minimal direct supervision.
- Willingness to work flexibly and professionally in a dynamic and fast-moving environment.
