Bakhita initiative which began as Justice, Development and Peace/Caritas (JDPC Sokoto) is a structural response to the second Vatican Council Appealing for the churches involvement in the affairs of the society. In the document of the council, populorum progression of 1967, Pope Paul VI wrote,“The progressive development of people is an object of deep interest and concern of the church. This is particularly true in the case of those people who are trying to escape the ravages of hunger, poverty endemic disease and ignorance; of those who are seeking a large share in the benefit of civilization and more active improvement on their human qualities; of whose are consciously striving for fuller growth with an even clear awareness.”
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Community Mobilizer
Location: Wurno, Wamakko – Sokoto
Employment Type: Full-time
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement and Participation:
- Identify and establish relationships with key community stakeholders, leaders, and influencers.
- Conduct community needs assessments to understand the challenges, priorities, and resources available.
- Plan and implement strategies to promote community participation and ownership in the organization’s programs.
- Organize and facilitate community meetings, workshops, and events to gather input, feedback, and support.
- Promote inclusive and participatory decision-making processes within the community.
Awareness and Advocacy:
- Raise awareness about the organization’s mission, objectives, and programs within the community.
- Develop and implement communication strategies to disseminate information effectively.
- Advocate for community interests and needs to relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, partner organizations, and donors.
- Collaborate with other NGOs, community-based organizations, and local authorities to strengthen the organization’s network and influence.
Capacity Building:
- Identify training needs within the community and develop capacity-building programs accordingly.
- Organize and facilitate training workshops and sessions on various topics, including community development, leadership, and project management.
- Empower community members to take an active role in planning, implementing, and monitoring projects.
- Provide guidance and support to community-based organizations and local groups to enhance their effectiveness and sustainability.
Monitoring and Reporting:
- Monitor the progress and impact of community engagement activities.
- Collect data and information to measure outcomes and evaluate the effectiveness of community mobilization efforts.
- Prepare regular reports on community engagement activities, including achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
- Contribute to the organization’s overall monitoring and evaluation framework.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Community Development, or a related field. Relevant experience may be accepted instead of a degree.
- Proven experience in community mobilization, participatory approaches, and community development.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to engage with diverse groups and build relationships.
- Excellent facilitation and training skills.
- Knowledge of local cultures, customs, and social dynamics.
- Familiarity with the principles of sustainable development and community-based approaches.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in relevant computer applications and software.
- Fluency in written and spoken local language(s) is highly desirable. Additional language proficiency in Hausa Language is an added advantage.
