The Adewunmi Desalu Parkinson’s Foundation (ADPF) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation thatexists to support people living with Parkinson’s disease, their care partners and their families to achieve a wholesome life.

ADPF offers a seamless route to diagnosis, medication, rehabilitation and social support – free of charge – to people living with or impacted by Parkinson’s disease in Nigeria; and provides inspiration, tools and a positive environment to enable people with Parkinson’s Disease live better every day. Until there is a cure for Parkinson’s, ADPF shall continue to lead the way in providing care and resources that improve quality of life, first within Nigeria and then on the continent.

Job Title: Communications and Advocacy Officer

Job Description

  • We are seeking a dedicated Communications and Advocacy Officer to join our team at Adewunmi Desalu Parkinson’s Foundation (ADPF).
  • This role is critical in raising awareness and advocating for Parkinson’s Disease in Nigeria. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing effective communication strategies, engaging with various stakeholders, and promoting the foundation’s mission.

Key Responsibilities
Communication Strategies:

  • Craft comprehensive communication plans to enhance the foundation’s visibility and impact – including strategies for internal and external communications, social media engagement, and production of communication assets.
  • Manage digital and traditional media platforms, ensuring consistent and impactful messaging. Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration and alliances with public and private stakeholders.
  • Build relationships with government bodies, healthcare professionals, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Organise and participate in advocacy events, workshops, and seminars. Content Creation and Management:
  • Produce high-quality content, including press releases, articles, and social media posts.  Oversee the foundation’s website and social media channels, ensuring up-to-date and accurate information.

Public Relations and Media Outreach:

  • Serve as the foundation’s spokesperson when necessary.
  • Develop relationships with media outlets to promote foundation activities and Parkinson’s Disease awareness.

Fundraising Campaigns:

  • Plan and execute fundraising campaigns, including online and offline initiatives.
  • Collaborate with fundraising teams to develop compelling appeals and donor engagement strategies.

Donor Relations:

  • Cultivate relationships with donors, sponsors, and supporters.
  • Acknowledge contributions, provide updates, and ensure donor satisfaction.

Grant Writing:

  • Research, write, and submit grant proposals to foundations and donors.
  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements and reporting.

Advocacy Initiatives:

  • Develop and implement advocacy campaigns to influence public policy and raise awareness of key issues.
  • Mobilize supporters to participate in advocacy efforts.

Event Coordination:

  • Plan and execute events related to Parkinson’s Disease awareness and advocacy.
  • Coordinate logistics, manage budgets, and engage with participants and speakers.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Monitor the effectiveness of communication strategies and advocacy initiatives.
  • Prepare regular reports on activities, outcomes, and impact.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in communications, advocacy, or a similar role, preferably in the healthcare or non-profit sector.
  • Experience with design skills including Canva.
  • Experience conducting outreach and advocacy via social media.
  • Experience planning and executing outreach campaigns, including goal setting, audience identification, message development, storytelling, tactics selection, and results tracking.
  • Strong familiarity with website and mail systems including WordPress, Campaign Monitor and Hootsuite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficient in digital communication tools and social media platforms.
  • Strong understanding of the media landscape in Nigeria.

Salary
N300,000 – N350,000 / month.
