CALL FOR APPLICATION FOR THE POSITION OF CHILD PROTECTION OFFICER (INTERNAL)

Type of Contract: Fixed-Term Contract
Duration: 6 months (with possible extension)
Duty Station:  Borno state (Roving across LGA’s)

Background:

The Restoration of Hope Initiative is a Non-Governmental Organization that was founded in 2012 and began operations in 2015 in the areas of education, protection, Nutrition, WASH, and livelihood. ROHI has helped over 300,000 children in the Northeast to have access to inclusive quality education by establishing infrastructure and boosting the capacity of educational institutions since its inception in 2012. ROHI specializes in education programming, as well as development programming and humanitarian assistance. The North East crisis has increased the number of individuals forced to relocate, hampered access to educational opportunities, heightened security concerns, and demanded the provision of life-saving services. In partnership, ROHI seeks applicants that share our humanitarian objectives and have knowledge and experience in case management.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and coordinate provision of professional counselling services for children with protection concerns by conducting play and art therapy, individual and group sessions and work with caregivers to address children concerns
  • Conducting relevant training to programme staffs, community structures and staffs from partner agencies.
  • Support to develop detailed MHPSS implementation plans; monitor performance against work plan deadlines, ensure accurate data collection on performance indicators.
  • Support in the development of capacity enhancement sessions for the community/lay counsellors, conduct and/or supervise trainings for the community structures and volunteers to ensure programming meets quality standards.
  • Plan, organize and implement quality community sensitization forums in partnership with the community workers.
  • Represent ROHI in interagency meetings (Coordination meeting) and also playing the role of the child protection focal point person.
  • Supervise case workers on case entry on Primero SW.

Partnerships and coordination

  • Develop partnerships with child protection and education committees to enhance community participation, ownership and sustainability of programmes by orienting them on the project goals and to solicit their involvement in the implementation of the project
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other aid agencies, governmental institutions and community level structures in order to promote community ownership and sustainability of the project initiatives.
  • Represent ROHI in interagency working groups and coordination meeting

Qualifications and Experience

  • Good communication skills with fluency in written and spoken English
  • Graduate degree in counselling or Psychology, with 3 years’ experience working with children is desirable
  •  Past experience implementing child protection programmes at officer level and knowledge of community based child protection approaches, preferably including experience in participatory approaches (PRA/PLA) and child participation methodologies is desirable.
  • Ability to use a wide range of child counselling methodologies
  • Demonstrable ability to adapt to changing programme priorities and emergency priorities that may arise
  • Strong self-starter, able to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities
  • Positive attitude towards community work with emphasis on the ability to learn from communities and support innovative approaches to problem solving

Ethical conduct for ROHI staff:

  • Restoration of Hope Initiative maintains a code of standards of conduct that shall govern the performances of its employees engaged in awarding and administering contracts. No employee, officer, or agent shall participate in the selection, award, or administration of a contract supported/ by donor funds if a real or apparent conflict of interest would be involved. Such a conflict would arise when the employee, officer, or agent, any member of his or her immediate family, his or her partner, or an organization that employs or is about to employ any of the parties indicated above, has a financial or other interest in the firm selected for an award. Disciplinary action will be applied for violations of such standards by ROHI officers, employees, or agents.

  • Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within ROHI and amongst beneficiaries served by ROHI

Languages:

•           Being fluent in English (speaking, reading, and writing) is strongly desired.

•           Fluency in Hausa, Kanuri and Fulani is preferred.
