Job Title: Category Buyer, Technical – HLP

Location: Warri, Delta / Lagos
Department: Supply Chain and Business Services – Contracts & Purchasing

Job Summary

  • This role is designed to support the procurement of wells engineering, drilling, subsurface equipment, fabrication, rotating equipment, and services across our production and project assets.
  • The successful candidate will contribute to category strategy execution, support procurement and contract processes, and work closely with internal stakeholders to meet business needs in line with company procurement policies and procedures.
  • This role is designed for early-career professionals with 3–5 years of experience in technical buying within the oil and gas or related engineering industries.

Key Accountabilities
Category Management:

  • Support the development and implementation of category strategies for wells engineering, drilling, subsurface equipment, fabrication, rotating equipment, and related services.
  • Conduct basic market research and vendor analysis to identify sourcing opportunities and risks.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather business needs and technical specifications for effective category planning.

Contract Management:

  • Assist in the preparation, negotiation, and administration of supplier contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with contract terms and support the resolution of performance issues.
  • Maintain proper documentation and tracking for contract execution, renewals, and performance monitoring.

Procurement:

  • Manage procurement activities for assigned technical categories in accordance with approved procedures and strategies.
  • Ensure all procurement processes are compliant with company policies and internal controls.
  • Provide support for tender evaluations, vendor selection, and issuance of purchase orders.

Buying Responsibilities:

  • Execute purchases of approved technical equipment and services in line with category strategies and specifications.
  • Negotiate delivery timelines and pricing within defined parameters.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of purchase requisitions and order confirmations.

Compliance and Governance:

  • Ensure adherence to procurement policies, ethics, and regulatory requirements in all procurement activities.
  • Monitor procurement performance indicators and contribute to reporting processes.
  • Identify and escalate any risks or compliance gaps observed during the procurement process.

Qualifications
Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related technical field.
  • Professional Certifications (Desirable)
  • Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) certification (Level 2–3) or equivalent.
  • Basic technical or project management certification is an added advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in procurement, contracts, or technical buying roles.
  • Exposure to sourcing, buying, or vendor management for engineering services, equipment, or oil and gas materials.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP procurement tools and document handling.

Skills and Competences:

  • Sound understanding of procurement principles and best practices.
  • Good analytical, contract administration, and vendor management skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and support the buying of engineered products or services.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency in project management tools (such as Primavera, Smart Sheets)
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP, Ariba, or similar.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Awareness of Nigerian procurement regulations, Incoterms, and statutory deductions.
  • Commitment to compliance, integrity, and continuous learning in procurement.
