The Global Development Network has launched a global consultation to gather insights on strengthening national research capacity in biodiversity.

The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) aims to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030, but achieving its goals requires strong institutions, policies, and financial mechanisms. National research capacity, particularly at the intersection of biodiversity and development sectors like trade, urban planning, and economic policy, needs significant investment.

The Global Development Network (GDN) analysed biodiversity research challenges through its AFD-GDN Biodiversity and Development Awards, revealing systemic barriers such as limited interdisciplinary collaboration, institutional support, and funding for transdisciplinary research. Strengthening research systems and leveraging open science are critical to enhancing the impact of biodiversity research. The results will be analysed and shared, with participating institutions gaining early access to findings and potential collaboration opportunities.
