Job Description: Board Member
Job Title: Board Member
Location: Flexible (Remote or On-site)
Type: Volunteer Position
Reporting to: Board Chair
Term: 3 years (renewable for up to 3 additional terms)
Key Responsibilities:
- Governance and Strategic Direction:
- Attend and actively participate in all board meetings and committees.
- Contribute to the strategic planning and policy development of the organization.
- Ensure that RAF’s activities align with its mission, vision, and values.
- Advocacy and Representation:
- Serve as an ambassador for RAF, promoting its mission and values within your network and community.
- Engage in public speaking, networking, and advocacy activities to raise the profile of RAF.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, donors, and partners.
- Fundraising and Resource Development:
- Participate in fundraising efforts, including identifying and cultivating potential donors.
- Support the development and execution of fundraising strategies and campaigns.
- Provide leadership in securing financial resources to sustain and grow RAF’s programs.
Oversight and Evaluation:
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of RAF’s programs and initiatives.
- Ensure fiduciary and ethical oversight of the organization’s operations and finances.
- Review and approve budgets, financial reports, and strategic plans.
- Networking and Collaboration:
- Establish and maintain relationships with other board members, staff, and volunteers.
- Collaborate with the executive team to support organizational goals and initiatives.
- Participate in board development and training activities to enhance governance capabilities.
Required Skills and Experience
- Leadership and Governance: Proven experience in a leadership role within a non-profit, corporate, or governmental organization.
- Fundraising and Resource Development: Demonstrated success in fundraising and resource mobilization.
- Strategic Planning: Ability to think strategically and contribute to long-term organizational planning.
- Financial Acumen: Understanding of financial management, budgeting, and oversight.
- Communication and Advocacy: Excellent communication, public speaking, and advocacy skills.
- Commitment to Mission: Deep alignment with RAF’s mission, values, and goals.
- Availability: Willingness to commit time to board duties, including attending meetings and participating in events.

- Background Check: Willingness to undergo a background check as part of the selection process.
- Travel: Ability to travel for board meetings, events, and site visits as needed.
