Role Summary
- The Assistant Manager, Finance & Accounts will assist the finance department in managing financial operations and reporting.
- The role involves overseeing day-to-day financial transactions, ensuring compliance with Nigerian tax and financial regulations, managing budgets, and contributing to financial planning and analysis.
- This role also focuses on supporting the team in the implementation of financial processes and systems to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Financial Reporting – 25%:
- Assist in the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Help generate management reports that reflect the company’s financial performance and position.
Accounts Management – 20%:
- Supervise day-to-day financial operations including managing accounts payable and receivable.
- Review and approve payment vouchers, invoices, and receipts.
Cashflow Management – 15%:
- Monitor daily cash flow and manage the company’s working capital.
- Assist in forecasting cash flow needs and ensuring liquidity.
Tax Compliance – 10%:
- Support in ensuring timely filing of tax returns and other statutory filings in compliance with Nigerian tax laws (VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, etc.).
Bank & Account Reconciliations – 10%:
- Ensure timely and accurate bank reconciliations.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial records between bank statements and accounting records.
Budgeting & Expense Control – 5%:
- Assist in preparing departmental budgets and monitor actual performance against budgeted figures.
- Support in tracking and controlling company expenses to align with the financial goals and approved budget.
Financial Systems & ERP – 5%:
- Assist with the implementation and maintenance of accounting software and ERP systems to streamline financial operations.
Internal Controls & Compliance – 5%:
- Monitor internal financial controls and ensure compliance with company policies and statutory requirements.
Audit & Documentation – 5%:
- Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and assisting in audit processes.
Qualifications and Skills
Qualification:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from a recognized Nigerian university.
Preferred:
- ICAN, ACCA, or other professional accounting certification is an advantage.
Experience:
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a finance or accounting role, preferably in a retail, automotive, or distribution environment.
Preferred:
- Experience in managing finance functions in retail finance, specifically in automotive, solar, or energy sectors.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, VAT, and Nigerian tax laws.
- Familiarity with bank reconciliation and cash flow management.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Preferred:
- Experience in budgeting and managing working capital.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, accounting software (QuickBooks, ERP), and data analysis.
- Knowledge of Nigerian tax compliance and experience with VAT and PAYE filing.
Personal Attributes:
- Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, able to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
