The Bulgarian Fund for Women (BFW) has announced a competition for funding under the Mission: Possible program – the only donor program in Bulgaria that provides flexible and unrestricted funding (core funding) for organizational development and administrative needs of civil society organizations.

The program aims to strengthen the internal capacity, autonomy and sustainability of organizations, providing them with stability and the opportunity for strategic, long-term planning in accordance with their missions and values.

Aims
  • The program aims to support organizations that:
    • have as their main mission, and not just a partial focus in their programs, the promotion of the rights of women, girls, LGBTI+ people and other vulnerable groups; 
    • are committed to promoting and raising awareness of fundamental rights, the values ​​of the European Union, the rule of law and democracy; 
    • work on issues that are underestimated, contested, or insufficiently addressed in public and political debate; 
    • apply an integrated approach to gender mainstreaming and non-discrimination, and work from a feminist or human rights perspective.
Thematic Areas
  • The Mission: Possible program supports initiatives that contribute to systemic change and empowerment of vulnerable groups through sustainable organizational development. The support is aimed at civil society organizations that work on key topics such as:
    • feminist knowledge and analysis; 
    • integrating a gender perspective (gender mainstreaming);
    • rights of women, LGBTI+ people, migrants, refugees and asylum seekers; 
    • gender-based violence and domestic violence; 
    • media freedom and combating disinformation; 
    • democratic participation and fair elections; 
    • climate justice, social equality, labor rights and access to justice; 
    • empowering communities in isolated and marginalized areas.
Funding Information
  • The total budget of the competition amounts to 4,302,826 BGN (the BGN equivalent of 2,200,000 EUR).
  • Organizations can apply for funding ranging from a minimum of 39,116.60 BGN (20,000 EUR) to a maximum of 117,349.80 BGN (60,000 EUR) for a period between 12 and 34 months, regardless of whether they are established or newly established.
Eligible Activities
  • Financial support can be used for a wide range of activities related to the administrative, strategic and programmatic strengthening of organizations, including:
    • strategic planning and development; 
    • team building and human resources; 
    • sustainable financial management; 
    • monitoring, learning and evaluation; 
    • advocacy and participation in policy formation; 
    • risk management and crisis preparedness.
Target Groups
  • The program places special emphasis on organizations whose work covers vulnerable groups, including: girls and women; people with disabilities or addictions; LGBTI+ people; refugees and migrants; women in feminized and low-paid professions; human rights defenders, journalists and media representatives.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Eligible candidates:
    • Applications in the competition can only be submitted by organizations registered in Bulgaria under the Non-Profit Legal Entities Act (NPLA) and carrying out activities for the public benefit.
