Job Summary:

Reporting to the Senior Finance Specialist/Designate, TechnoServe Nigeria, the Accounting Officer is a dynamic and agile position that will play a key role in providing accounts payable, proposal budgeting  and general accounting support on all projects being implemented in the Nigeria country office in an efficient and compliant manner and ensuring compliance to TechnoServe, donor and statutory policies, processes and regulations.

Primary Functions & Responsibilities:

Accounts Payable

  • Review procurement requests ensuring compliance with procurement policies, donor policies and country regulatory bodies
  • Process procurement approvals by raising payment vouchers and facilitating wire transfers
  • Processing accurate and timely transaction information into TechnoServe’s accounting system. Check and code expenditure (travel advances, imprest and purchase requisition)
  • Maintain financial documents filing system both physical and electronic
  • Work with the Senior Finance Specialist to implement a grant tracking/monitoring system, monitoring grant expenditures in order to identify any irregularities.

Compliance

  • File all tax deductions and support obtaining of tax clearance certificate for the organization
  • Keep up to date with regulatory changes
  • Support statutory, internal and project audits
  • Work with Senior Finance Specialist in ensuring compliance with Nigerian tax laws

Budget

  • Gather cost inputs from relevant sources for proposal budgeting.
  • Prepare budget for proposals written to potential donors
  • Assist in the preparation of annual and mid-year corporate budget
  • Budget for monitoring and tracking activities across all projects
  • Conduct a budget variance analysis

Others

  • Support in preparing schedules for monthly financial close
  • Review all reconciliations and ensure completeness and compliance
  • Support GL reconciliation for accuracy and early error detection
  • Participate in internal and external audits by providing auditors with accounting documents as requested and provide explanation for audit queries
  • Perform other related tasks in respect to achieving the above listed as may be assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting with 2 years’ experience, alternatively 4 years’ experience in the field of finance.
  • Advanced-level knowledge of Microsoft Excel, and basic functional knowledge of field accounting software packages.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with UNICEF/USAID donor funded projects and reporting
  • Experienced in budgeting for potential donor proposals
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks with competing deadlines
