Job Title: University Librarian
Location: Owerri, Imo
Duties
- The University Librarian is a Principal Officer and the Head of the University Library.
- He/ She shall be responsible to the Vice Chancellor for the administration of the University Library and coordination of all library services in the University.
- As an academic staff, the University Librarian will be required to provide both academic and administrative leadership to members of staff in the Department.
Requirements
- Candidate for the position of University Librarian must possess a Doctorate Degree in Library and Information Science from a recognized University and membership of relevant professional bodies plus at least (15) years of post-qualification experience with adequate publications in reputable national and international journals.
- The person must not be below the rank of a Deputy /Reader Librarian for a period of not less than five years.
- Consideration may be given to a candidate who has served in acting capacity as University Librarian for a period of at least one year.
- Possess adequate leadership experience as well as high degree of competence, integrity and dependability with demonstrable transparency in private and public life.
- Exhibit the ability of a team leader who leads by example and has clear mentorship skills and should not be older than (60) years upon appointment and should be within the retirement age at the expiration of his or her tenure.
- Exhibits a considerate degree of competence, responsiveness, demonstrable integrity and transparency on matters of human resource management with an outstanding experience at the management level
- Be a highly commendable person both in character and quality of service.
- Be in excellent physical and mental health
- Be registered member of the Librarian Registration Council (LRCN) and a paid up member of the Association.
Tenure
- The successful candidate for the office of University Librarian shall serve a single term of five (5) years from the effective date of appointment.
Salary / Condition of Services
- The salary and condition of service of the university librarian shall be on such terms and conditions as may be specified in the letter of appointment and on salary scale of CONUASS 7.
