We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Accountant
Location: Lagos Mainland, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Summary
- The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with financial regulations.
- This role will support the finance team in preparing financial reports, managing accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring efficient financial operations within the FMCG sector.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Recordkeeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records, including general ledger entries, trial balance, and balance sheet.
- Reconcile bank statements and other financial accounts to ensure accuracy.
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring accurate invoice entries, payments, and collections.
- Review and process vendor invoices, ensuring proper documentation and approval.
- Monitor overdue accounts and initiate collection efforts where necessary.
Monthly/Quarterly/Annual Financial Reporting:
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Support the Finance team in month-end and year-end closing activities.
Costing & Inventory Management:
- Monitor inventory accounting, and ensure correct cost allocation for goods sold.
- Assist in analyzing product cost structures and inventory valuation.
Tax Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and timely filing of returns (e.g., VAT, Sales Tax, etc.).
- Assist with preparation for audits and provide necessary documentation.
Cash Flow Management:
- Monitor and maintain cash flow forecasts to ensure sufficient liquidity.
- Report any issues related to cash management and suggest improvements.
Internal Controls & Auditing:
- Assist in ensuring adherence to internal control policies and procedures.
- Support external auditors during the annual audit process.
Budgeting & Financial Planning:
- Assist in budget preparation and forecast reports to help manage financial performance.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure financial controls are followed.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Certifications: CPA or equivalent (preferred but not mandatory).
- Experience: Minimum of 2 – 3 years of experience in accounting, preferably in an FMCG or manufacturing environment.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SageQuickBooks, Tally, or similar).
- Strong MS Excel skills for financial analysis.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
Key Attributes:
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of FMCG industry trends, product costing, and financial management processes is an advantage.
