Job Summary

  • The Head Teacher of the Primary Sectionat Discovering Talents Academy (DTA) is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the overall academic excellence, operational efficiency, and pastoral care within the primary school. This position demands a visionary leader who will champion DTA’s core mission to “create an atmosphere of fun where kids can enjoy being kids” and its vision to “discover and bring out the uniqueness in every child.” The Head Teacher will drive the implementation of DTA’s SHRID niche(Skill Acquisition, Handwriting, Reading, Individualized Teaching, Diction) across the primary curriculum, ensuring tailored learning experiences that foster holistic development and empower every child to shine.

Key Responsibilities
Academic Leadership & Curriculum Development:

  • Lead, oversee, and continuously develop the primary school curriculum, ensuring alignment with DTA’s SHRID niche and national educational standards.
  • Drive pedagogical innovation, promoting effective teaching strategies that cater to individualized learning needs and encourage interactive, engaging activities.
  • Monitor and evaluate teaching and learning outcomes, utilizing assessment data to inform instructional practices and student support.
  • Ensure the consistent implementation of Nelson Handwritingacross all primary grades and foster a profound “Love for Reading”through well-designed reading programs.
  • Champion correct dictionand articulate communication among both staff and pupils.

Staff Management & Development:

  • Supervise, mentor, and provide ongoing professional development for all primary section teachers, ensuring high standards of instruction and adherence to DTA’s philosophy.
  • Conduct performance appraisals for primary teachers, utilizing the DTA software and its “Breakdown” and “History” features to identify training needs and promote continuous growth.
  • Foster a collaborative, supportive, and motivating working environment within the primary team.
  • Participate in the recruitment and onboarding of new primary teachers, ensuring alignment with DTA’s unique vision and mission.

Student Welfare & Development:

  • Oversee the pastoral care and well-being of all primary students, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitor student progress across all domains (academic, social, emotional, practical skills), ensuring individualized support plans are in place where needed.
  • Uphold and promote DTA’s values and disciplinary policies, fostering respect, responsibility, and positive behavior.
  • Ensure that every child has opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge, talents, and abilities, affirming their ego and supporting their unique identity.

Parent & Community Engagement:

  • Maintain open and effective communication channels with parents regarding student progress, school policies, and primary section activities.
  • Foster strong partnerships with parents, encouraging their active involvement in their child’s education and the school community.
  • Address parental concerns and feedback professionally and constructively.

Operational Management:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the primary section, including timetable scheduling, resource allocation, and facility usage.
  • Collaborate with the Admin Officer to ensure efficient administrative support for the primary section.
  • Oversee the effective use of the DTA software for academic tracking, communication, and appraisal processes within the primary section.

Strategic Contribution:

  • Contribute to the overall strategic planning and development of DTA, aligning primary section goals with the school’s broader vision and mission.
  • Represent the primary section in school-wide meetings, initiatives, and external engagements.
  • Stay abreast of best practices and innovations in primary education, integrating relevant advancements into DTA’s approach.

Qualifications

  • Education:Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field; a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum Development, or Administration is highly preferred.
  • Experience:Minimum of [e.g., 7-10] years of teaching experience, with at least [e.g., 3-5] years in an educational leadership or supervisory role within a primary school setting.
  • Leadership:Proven track record of successful team leadership, curriculum development, and pedagogical innovation.
  • Knowledge:In-depth understanding of primary education best practices, child development, and Special Educational Needs (SEN).
  • Technological Proficiency:Strong proficiency in using educational technology, school management software (e.g., DTA software), and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Communication:Exceptional verbal and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
