Lindii Peace Foundation (LPF) is a nonprofit non-governmental national organization established in Nigeria in July 2014 with the aim to improve the lives of people through effective and efficient humanitarian and developmental assistance in communities where such supports are essentially necessary within Nigeria. Through international and national networking, LPF provided humanitarian and developmental assistance to individuals, families, schools, Health facilities, and communities in more than twelve (12) states within Nigeria regardless of their ethnicity, political and religious affiliation. LPF fundamentally intervenes in multi-sectoral humanitarian activities majoring in Protection, Health, Food Security & Livelihood, Education, Nutrition, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) interventions, and other Cross-Sectoral areas.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Licensed Nurse

Location: Monguno, Borno
Employment Type: Contract

Duty Description

  • The nurse will provide nursing care, treatment and follow-up of patients, according to doctors’ prescriptions, protocols applied in service and universal hygiene standards/precautions, in order to ensure the quality and continuity of care for the targeted population.
  • S/he will work closely with the medical team to provide holistic services to patients

Key Responsibilities

  • Know, promote, implement, and follow up on universal hygiene standards, precautions, bio-hazard prevention, infection control, security rules, and other protocols in the medical premises, ensuring high hygiene standards of the working environment.
  • Work in collaboration with project team members and supervise support staff within the unit using available tools.
  • Maintain proper handover and documentation of all procedures performed during shifts, including registration of new admissions, discharges, and updating patient files and checklists.
  • Be present at the duty station at all times, except when called to assist another unit, and maintain effective communication and collaboration with team members.
  • Carry out Therapeutic Patient Education (TPE), maintaining contact with patients, providing health information, and answering medical questions.
  • Organize and administer care and treatments according to medical prescriptions, assist during consultations, daily rounds, and procedures, and participate in health education for patients and their families.
  • Identify victims of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and refer them promptly to the medical team for appropriate treatment.
  • Be aware of the importance and proper use of Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) kits and ensure their correct application when needed.
  • Ensure patients are properly received, settled, and assisted, especially those with limited autonomy, regarding feeding, personal hygiene, mobility, and comfort. For ER and OPD nurses, perform triage, identify emergency cases, provide first aid, and refer patients to doctors as necessary.
  • Send materials for sterilization, recover sterilized items, and ensure proper sterilization procedures are followed.
  • Conduct patient admission, ongoing surveillance, and follow-up, assessing health status and detecting emergencies or deterioration.
  • Supervise administrative tasks such as filling patient files, forms, medication logs, statistics, registers, and health records; ensure proper handovers and report any issues or problematic cases.
  • Participate in data collection, reporting, and keep doctors/supervisors informed of patient status and relevant information.
  • Oversee pharmacy and medical equipment management, including quality control, storage, stock monitoring, expiry date checks, and ensuring equipment functionality.
  • Perform cleaning and minor maintenance of biomedical equipment following user manuals and protocols; alert supervisors of malfunctions.
  • Supervise and train nurse aides, nutritional assistants, cleaners, and other support staff, fostering teamwork and adherence to protocols.
  • Respect hygiene rules, including hand washing, waste management, proper work attire, and infection prevention measures.

  • Uphold LPF’s values, humanitarian principles, and safeguarding standards.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and ethical medical practice at all times.
  • Provides advice to patients in order to maintain good hygiene in conjunction with the nurse assistant lay counsellor.

Required Qualifications and Experience
Education:

  • Essential recognized Nurse Degree / Diploma
  • Desirable bachelor’s in nursing science

Experience:

  • Desirable at least 2 years of previous experience and previous experience in other NGO’s
  • Demonstrable experience in supervising and training others in a team setting.

Languages:

  • Fluent English (oral and written English), Hausa, Kanuri are Essential
