Job Title: Senior Accountant / Financial Controller
Location: Victoria Island, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer / Managing Director
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning, Control & Reporting:
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Lead the preparation and timely submission of financial statements, including:
- Management accounts (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
- CBN/Regulatory returns
- Monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Develop, monitor, and analyze budgets and financial performance. Conduct variance analyses and provide actionable insights.
- Prepare accurate cash flow forecasts to support liquidity and funding needs.
- Manage tax planning, computation, remittance, and statutory deductions (PAYE, VAT, WHT, etc.).
Compliance & Internal Controls:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations including CBN guidelines, FIRS requirements, and IFRS standards.
- Establish and maintain robust internal control systems, policies, and procedures.
- Liaise with external auditors, regulators, and tax consultants.
- Ensure proper record-keeping, audit readiness, and risk mitigation.
Portfolio & Credit Oversight (Supporting COO):
- Collaborate with the credit and risk teams to ensure quality loan underwriting, sound credit decisioning, and portfolio monitoring.
- Monitor credit performance and analyze delinquencies; support recovery efforts and portfolio remedial actions.
- Conduct periodic loan book and collateral reviews to ensure compliance with facility agreements.
- Support the COO in credit risk evaluation and monthly risk asset meetings.
Strategic Financial Advisory:
- Provide insights and recommendations to support the company’s financial strategy, investment decisions, and operational improvements.
- Drive automation and digital transformation in the finance department.
- Track key financial metrics and performance indicators to support business goals.
- Assist in capital raising, investor relations, and business expansion strategies when required.
Key Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (required).
- Qualified Accountant (ICAN/ACCA) – required.
- Minimum of 7 – 10 years progressive experience in financial management, preferably in a financial services or lending institution.
- Demonstrated experience in financial reporting, budgeting, tax, audit coordination, and regulatory reporting.
- Strong understanding of credit risk, loan operations, and treasury management.
- Hands-on experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Zoho Books) and advanced Excel skills.
- Familiarity with Nigerian tax laws and CBN regulatory guidelines.
