Founded in 1991, SIF is a non-profit and non-political organization that intends to help, to bring relief and to protect the lives of those threatened by natural disasters, armed conflicts or by economic collapse. SIF provides its help in respect of cultural diversity, without any distinction of origin, religion or gender.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Livelihood Officer

Location: Borno

Overall Purpose of the Role

  • Under the direct supervision of Programme Manager, the FSL Officer is overall responsible to ensure that the implementation of SIF Nigeria’s FSL activities are guided in accordance with approved methodologies and tools and are in line with SIF and donor policies and guidelines.
  • The FSL Officer will be working in cooperation with SIF programme team and in collaboration with local authorities and communities. In addition, he/she will be tasked of reporting and when requested engaged in monitoring, evaluation and learning activities.

Responsibilities
Under the supervision and with the technical inputs of the Programme Manager FSL officer will be responsible to:

  • Manage the implementation in accordance with the implementation plan and overall project goals and objectives.
  • Conduct trainings, awareness sessions and any other activities in the field as part of the implementation plan.
  • Provide technical activity inputs to the Programme Team to design future activities.
  • Coordinating, leading and conducting rapid sectorial needs and market assessments in the field and support the identification of main market-driven activities for women.
  • To contribute actively on conducting baseline / endline surveys and provide inputs in reports generation.  
  • Support data collection/ monitoring/ evaluation and participate in the roll out of new tools/ processes for livelihood activities.
  • Provide regular report and feedback to the Programme Manager on the status and effectiveness of the activities.
  • Responsible for data quality and verification of all livelihoods-related data at field level and appropriate storage.
  • Ensures liaison with the communities, maintaining links with community committees and elders, engaging consistently with beneficiaries and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Responsible for logistical implementation of livelihoods activities, including delivery of goods to the sites.
  • Coordinating and conducting field distributions activities (food items, seeds and fertilizers, shoats, cash grants and starter kits, others) in accordance to agreed criteria and guidelines.
  • Organize technical trainings for beneficiaries on crop and livestock production, Income-Generating Activities and Village Saving Loans Associations.
  • Participate in planning/ progress review meetings with local authorities, community leaders, partners, working groups, etc.
  • Support improvement of SIF livelihood strategy by identifying challenges, solutions, success stories and new opportunities for programming.
  • Participate in the preparation of budget forecast and follow-up.
  • Contribute to ensuring proper stock management for all equipment related to livelihood activities.
  • Follow the evolution of security context on the field with relevant stakeholders and report to the Programme Manager.
  • The employee may be requested to perform other tasks in accordance with it job category, in case of need related to the functioning of the Association or to changes in its policy and it organization, and respecting the pattern of fixed-term contract.

Requirements
Education:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree required.

Experience and Technical Competencies:

  • Minimum of four years of experience required.
  • Minimum of two years experience required with Food Security and/or Nutrition interventions within humanitarian and/or development organizations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the local context of North East and/or North West States of Nigeria.
  • Demonstrated experience to provide technical training on livelihoods skills.
  • Experience in working with Food Security Indicators: FCS, HDDS, MUAC, Negative Food Coping Strategies.
  • Experience with start-up of new projects.
  • Demonstrated team working and problem-solving skills
  • Computer using skills especially Ms. Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook etc).

  • English & Hausa

  • Internal: Programme Coordinator, Programme Manager, MEAL Officer, and Support Departments.
  • External: Other Humanitarian Partners, UN Agencies, HAC, Governmental Agencies.
