The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture is recruiting recruiting on behalf of WorldFish to fill the position below at their Country Office in Ibadan:

Job Title: Research Assistant

Duration: 6 months’ renewable 

Duties

  • Assist in the scaling programme of WorldFish Nigeria to expand the decentralized tilapia seed supply system.
  • Liaise with established satellite tilapia hatcheries in Delta, Kwara, and Nasarawa States for monitoring and data collection on fry production and sales.
  • Support the selection of beneficiary farmers for training in best management practices of tilapia farming.
  • Assist in organizing training programmes for selected beneficiary farmers in the identified states.
  • Identify potential SME hatcheries to establish new tilapia satellite hatcheries in the selected states.
  • Support the implementation of input distribution to selected tilapia satellite hatcheries.
  • Report operational issues to the Officer-in-Charge of Nigeria for troubleshooting.
  • Perform any other duty as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements
Qualification and Experience:

  • Candidates should possess an HND / Bachelor’s Degree in Fisheries and aquaculture/Animal Science or related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Aquaculture farm operations, particularly in Tilapia in a well-structured environment.

Competencies:
The ideal candidate must:

  • Have experience in aquaculture farm data collection and farm record keeping and monitoring, preferably in donor funded or not for profit environment set up.
  • Be a proficient computer literate.
  • Have basic knowledge of data processing and analysis.
