We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Credit Verification Specialist

Location: Ikeja, Lagos
Job type: Fill-time

Role Purpose
As our inaugural Verification Specialist, you will:

  • Build Palmpay’s end-to-end credit verification engine—from live application processing to SOP playbook and training.
  • Execute high-quality KYC, document and field verifications to keep our loan book healthy.
  • Coach the first cohort of Verification Officers, embedding your processes and quality standards into a scalable function.

Key Responsibilities
Hands-On Verification:

  • Process loan applications daily (KYC, ID/CAC/BVN checks, digital data validation).
  • Coordinate field visits with agents for on-site photo captures, inventory spot-checks, and basic bookkeeping walkthroughs.

Process Design & Documentation:

  • Draft, version-control and maintain SOPs covering every verification step.
  • Create clear workflow maps, define handoff points, and document everything. 

Quality Assurance & Iteration:

  • Audit verifications daily for errors or fraud signals.
  • Log exceptions, perform 24-hr root-cause analyses, and update SOPs to close gaps.

Cross-Functional Partnership:

  • Embed CBN KYC/AML rules into all workflows; partner with Risk & Compliance.
  • Liaise with Product & Engineering on basic data integrations (credit bureaus, utility APIs) and UI refinements.

First-Line Training:

  • Lead initial training sessions; walk new hires through tools, processes, and quality checkpoints.
  • Host weekly “Verification Retrospectives” to capture learnings and drive continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business, Data Analytics or related.
  • Experience: 1–2 years as a Verification Officer or Field Credit Officer at a fast-moving fintech or digital lender, with proven ownership of end-to-end processes.
  • Technical Skills: Excel power-user; quick to learn SQL or BI dashboards. Skilled at creating flowcharts and written guides.
  • Startup DNA: Thrive in ambiguity, roll up your sleeves, iterate fast, and always ask, “How can this scale?”
  • Core Competencies: Exceptional attention to detail, strong written & verbal communication, solid grasp of Nigerian credit-risk fundamentals and CBN KYC/AML guidelines.
