Concern for Women and Children Development Foundation (COWACDI) is a woman- led organization born out of passion for the wellbeing of Women and Children in Nigeria. COWACDI since its establishment in 2005 has been implementing humanitarian and developmental interventions in Protection, Peace Building, Housing Land & Property (HLP), Non-food Items (NFI), Livelihood. These interventions have directly targeted over 6000 vulnerable children, women, girls and boys as well as people with disabilities. Determined to expand her interventions to reach more vulnerable groups in the conflict area, COWACDI is implementing Livelihood and other projects in collaboration with CAID and other partners. The organization is a dynamic and impactful NGO committed to providing humanitarian aid and support to vulnerable communities around the world. With a focus on empowering individuals and fostering sustainable development, we strive to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of those in need. COWACDI has zero tolerance to fraud and other related practices. It has a special interest in mitigating the suffering of the vulnerable persons (mostly Women & Children) in times of crisis. Currently the organization has focused its attention on the Northeast of Nigeria with special emphasis in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states (the BAY states) due to the decade old crises. COWACDI intervenes through community-based approach in addressing Gender-Based Violence prevention and response programmes, child protection, peace-building programmes and empowerment of youth and women. Background
This project aims to enhance gender transformative approaches in fostering youth employment within the green economy while ensuring meaningful participation of women and youth. To achieve this, COWACDI seeks an experienced Gender Facilitator to build the capacity of project staff and stakeholders through targeted training, mentorship, and advocacy.
Objectives
The facilitator will:
- Provide expert facilitation to enhance the gender-transformative capacity of COWACDI’s staff and stakeholders.
- Develop and conduct training and dialogues on gender equality, gender-sensitive employment strategies, and life skills development.
- Strengthen gender advocacy efforts through awareness campaigns and policy engagements.
- Facilitate mentorship and networking opportunities for women and youth to improve access to employment in the green economy. Scope of Work
- Developing a facilitation plan and agenda: The facilitator will develop a comprehensive facilitation plan and agenda for interactive sessions, group discussions, and presentations.
- Designing the dialogue: Developing a detailed plan and agenda for the dialogue.
- Encouraging active participation: Using participatory and interactive methods to ensure all participants have an opportunity to contribute to the discussion.
- Managing the dialogue: Keeping the discussion focused, respectful, and on track, while ensuring that all participants have an opportunity to be heard.
- Provide weekly capacity building to the team, focusing on Gender transformative approach, Advocacy, gender analysis, gender mainstreaming
- Review all developed Gender related documents.
The facilitator will support the implementation of key project activities under the following outputs:
Capacity development in gender transformative approaches and life skills
- Facilitate a 2-day training for 40 stakeholders on gender transformative approaches, targeting womenled organizations, entrepreneurs, and women leaders.
- Organize and facilitate 10 life skills sessions for 50 adolescent girls and young women (ages 10-25) from IDP and host communities.
Stakeholder engagement and mentorship to enhance employment opportunities
- Support the creation of 15 women networks (50 members each) to share experiences and provide mutual support.
- Facilitate a mentorship workshop for 100 women to connect with potential employers and develop professional skills.
Advocacy and dialogue sessions on gender inclusion
- Conduct 12 dialogue sessions with 40 traditional leaders, 40 government stakeholders, and 40 men to promote gender inclusion.
- Facilitate 8 gender awareness events for traditional and religious leaders, local government officials, and councilors.
- Provide input for a coordinated social media awareness campaign on income-generating opportunities for women.
- Contribute to the development of advocacy and policy papers to highlight barriers faced by youth and women in accessing employment.
- Support the organization of a one-day International Women’s Day event at MMC, including panel discussions on gender equality and women’s leadership. Deliverables
- Training and Facilitation Materials: Develop and deliver presentations, training manuals, and interactive exercises for gender transformative training and life skills sessions.
- Dialogue and Awareness Event Reports: Provide detailed reports on discussions, outcomes, and recommendations from facilitated dialogues and awareness events.
- Mentorship and Networking Support: Facilitate mentorship connections and networking events for women and youth.
- Advocacy and Policy Recommendations: Develop key messages and policy briefs for engagement with stakeholders.
- Final Consultancy Report: Summarizing achievements, challenges, and recommendations for future gender-transformative programming.

Qualifications Required:
- A degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in gender studies or related areas are an advantage.
- At least 3-5 years of experience in gender-focused programming, gender mainstreaming, and facilitating gender awareness sessions.
- Strong understanding of gender equality principles, GESI (Gender Equality and Social Inclusion) framework, GEHI (Gender, Equality, and Health Intersectionality) framework, gender norms, and approaches like GALS (Gender Action Learning System) and MAP (Men as Partners).
- Excellent presentation, facilitation, and group dynamics management skills.
- Sensitivity to cultural contexts, especially in the conflict-affected regions of Northeast Nigeria.
- Proven ability to train and build the capacity of teams in gender-related concepts and practices.
Skills:
- Expertise in gender equality, gender-transformative approaches, and advocacy.
- Experience with Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) and Gender Equality and Humanitarian Inclusion (GEHI) frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of gender norms, mobility constraints for women, and gender-sensitive economic inclusion strategies.
- Familiarity with Gender Action Learning System (GALS) and Male Advocacy Program (MAP).
- Proven experience facilitating dialogues, training, and mentorship programs.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and report-writing skills.
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and ability to work in humanitarian settings.
Language Requirements:
Proficient in Hausa, English and Kanuri.
Level of Effort:
This the facilitator will be expected to commit up to the terms of agreement.
- However, this consultancy is not exclusive, and the facilitator is allowed to take other paid activities provided they do not interfere with the delivery of tasks stated within the scope of agreement or contravene the COWACDI Code of Conduct that will be provided to you, which is required of you to adhere to.
- Additional commitments may occasionally be required.
