Job Summary:
The Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) Officer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and evaluation of a project aimed at addressing menstrual discrimination through advocacy, education, and community and stakeholder engagement. This role focuses on reducing the stigma surrounding menstruation and promoting menstrual health and hygiene, while ensuring that marginalized groups, particularly adolescent girls, old women, and people with disabilities, have access to accurate information and resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement tailored SRHR programs focusing on menstrual health and hygiene, aiming to reduce menstrual discrimination.
- Ensure that menstrual health and rights are incorporated into the broader SRHR project framework.
- Integrate community feedback to shape the program’s direction and ensure it addresses the unique challenges faced by different groups (e.g., adolescent girls, women, people with disabilities).
- Design and lead educational campaigns that address the stigma and discrimination associated with menstruation.
- Develop and deliver community-based workshops, school programs, and media campaigns to educate the public on menstrual health, hygiene, and rights.
- Work with community leaders to ensure the campaign messages are culturally sensitive and contextually relevant.
- Provide materials, such as brochures and guides, on menstrual hygiene management and stigma reduction.
- Organize and conduct training sessions for local healthcare providers, teachers, and community leaders on how to support menstruators and address menstrual stigma.
- Equip community groups with the skills and knowledge to advocate for menstrual health and hygiene.
- Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation (M&E) tools to assess the effectiveness and impact of advocacy and educational initiatives.
- Regularly collect feedback from communities, stakeholders, and beneficiaries to gauge the progress of the project and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide periodic reports to management and donors on project achievements, challenges, and learning outcomes.
- Offer one-on-one or group counseling sessions for individuals facing menstrual-related stigma or difficulties, particularly marginalized groups.
- Create safe spaces within communities for menstruators to share their experiences and seek guidance on menstrual health management.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of activities, events, and meetings related to the project.
- Regularly update the project team, donors, and partners on progress and impact.
- Collect and document success stories from community members and stakeholders to highlight the impact of the initiative.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Gender Studies, International Relations, or a related field.
- Certifications or additional training in sexual and reproductive health rights, menstrual health, or gender equality would be beneficial.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in the sexual and reproductive health sector in an NGO Nigeria.
- Experience with community outreach programs, particularly in SRHR education, gender-based violence prevention, menstrual health, or health advocacy.
- Strong leadership and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work independently with a proactive, problem-solving approach.
- Compassionate, empathetic, and committed to advancing sexual and reproductive rights.
- Resilient, flexible, and culturally sensitive when working in diverse community settings.
