SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid association that, for over 40 years, has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters by meeting their vital needs: drinking, eating, and shelter. Particularly committed to combating diseases linked to unsafe water, the world’s leading cause of death, SI implements through its interventions expertise in the field of access to drinking water, sanitation and the promotion of hygiene, but also in the essential field of food security and livelihoods. Present in 26 countries, SI’s teams – 3,200 people in total, made up of expatriates, national employees, permanent staff at headquarters, a few volunteers, etc. – intervene with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultures.

The mission

The Solidarités International (SI) mission in Chad and Cameroon, named Tchameroun, merged in 2021.
Its coordination is based in Yaoundé. It is composed of members of six departments – programs, SERA, grants, human resources, finance and logistics – and a country director. SI Tchameroun also has three field coordinators (CT).

SI Tchameroun is present in the Lac, Ouaddaï and Sila regions of Chad, in the Far North (EN) of Cameroon, in N’Djamena and Yaoundé. The mission receives humanitarian (CDCS, ECHO, BHA, PRM, UNHCR) and development (AFD, DUE) funds. It is currently carrying out emergency assistance, livelihood strengthening and access to water, hygiene and sanitation (WASH) projects. It has been operating in eastern Chad, in response to the Sudanese crisis, since May 2023.
This recruitment notice concerns the position of reporting and communication officer.

General objective:

Under the supervision and with the support of the Grant Officer (Grant COO), the Reporting and Communication Officer (RCO) has the main role of producing and synthesizing reports, project proposals and any other communication documents.
He/She helps ensure compliance with donor regulations.
He/She contributes to improving the mission’s internal communication.
He/She is also involved in designing a communication strategy for an external audience.

Main Challenges:

• Maintain quality written productions, in French and English.
• Participate, with the grant coo, in strengthening the capacities of colleagues in the field in terms of writing reports and project proposals, with regard to donors’ expectations.
• Contribute to the development of internal and external communication materials.
• Participate in strengthening the mission’s knowledge of donor strategies.
• Participate in compiling documentation as part of audits.

Security :

Yaoundé is a generally calm city. Acts of urban crime are noted in certain neighborhoods and around markets, so it is advisable to be vigilant when traveling.
Due to the volatile security contexts in SI’s intervention areas in Chad and Cameroon, travel in these areas is subject to specific criteria and conditions.

Training:

Advanced degree in political science, development and/or international relations or equivalent.

  • Experience in the humanitarian sector: 0-2 years
  • Previous experience in a similar position would be an asset

A salaried position: Depending on experience, from EUR 2035 gross per month (1850 basic salary + 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly) and a monthly Per Diem of USD 600

SI also covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate’s home country and the duty station.

Breaks: During the mission, a system of alternating between work and leave is set up at a rate of 7 working days every three months (with USD 850 allocated by Solidarités International). In addition to these break periods, there is one additional day of rest per month worked.

Social and medical coverage: Expatriates benefit from insurance that reimburses all health costs (including medical and surgical costs, dental and ophthalmological care, repatriation) and a welfare system that includes war risks. The costs of essential vaccinations and anti-malarial treatment are reimbursed.

LIVING CONDITIONS:

The RCO is based in Yaoundé where living conditions are comfortable. The guest house is located 5 minutes by car from the SI office, in the Bastos district. It is a modern apartment with hot water, elevator, air conditioning, Internet, electricity.
The city of Yaoundé offers leisure opportunities (gyms, bars, restaurants, cultural institute, trekking, etc.) and the expatriate community is large.
The RCO regularly visits the various bases of the mission, particularly in N’Djamena.
